      Battery cable through firewall options

Are you guys using a bulkhead connector at the firewall to run the positive battery cable through or just a grommet ?? I'm not sure I like the idea of a LIVE cable connection at firewall using a bulkhead connector. I was also considering just a grommet and run the pos cable to the starter. I hope those caps on the bulkhead connector will prevent accidental contact.

Go to someplace like Aircraft Soruce and get cable end covers. They are like a flexible short spark plug boot to cover exposed wire terminals.

      Local Junkyard

Here you go- a neat solution-cost maybe $5 at your local pull-a-part

Not only to hook up your starter but also a terminal block for a couple other connections-

Mounted on the firewall- look at the mid 90's BMWs - the big ones 5 & 7 series

      Cover on-

Yes, I'd reconsider on the bulkhead. They are damn useful for lots of things.

I have been running this bulkhead connector from AllStar and have been very satisfied.

I'd also consider not leaving the main battery cable live. Use a Ford solenoid or equivalent so it's live only during cranking.

x2 on both of these. I have the All Star Performance bulkhead and a Ford solenoid, both work great.

I've used the heavy duty rubber grommets successfully. I can't remember the brand but I'll attach some links. I've used them through frames and firewalls with no problems and they've stood up well. I'll look for a brand and part number tomorrow.

The battery grommet is another option. However, I'm using 1/0 Batt cable. Actually, I think the 1/0 gauge cable is 5/8's. I will have to double check. Thx.

Not sure why guys don't like the bulkhead. Even DSE uses them and supplies them with their battery relocation kit. Put a protective cap on it and you are good to go.

Also curious if DSE uses a relay for the starter cable. I am pretty sure GM does not use one for the trunk mounted batteries in the 5th gen Camaros.
