Here is probably some of the youngest kids to install a set of DSE mini tubs. A huge thanks to DSE for supporting us and we are super excited to be installing a set of thier tubs. If a few 14-15 year old students can do it on their own with guidance anyone can. I will say the youtube videos they have help a lot as with their direction.

ended up picking up a 2011 l92 out of a van for $1200. We traded the old sbc for a atv and i sold the atv to buy the motor. I did buy new valve springs, factory gm performance cam, ls2 timing cover, new chain and sprockets and ARP head bolts. We have been gasket matching the cylinder head ports and looks very nice. Still many more hours to go but looking great. We are tring to build a l92 6.0 for under $3,000 and make close to 500hp.
      We will see.

Score this 2011 6.0 from a van for $1200 complete. Traded the 350 we took out of the car for a atv and sold the atv for $1500. Was going to just install a new cam and send it on its way into the chassis. Well plans changed. Cam Bearings didnt look so hot so here we go.

[QUOTE=groho;1219972]Wow! Autoshop sure has come a long way from my horse & buggy days. Awesome to see.

It Sure Has. We are a NATEF certified program with anywhere from 70-80 high school students in the shop at a time. We have two cycles totaling 140-160 students a year. We have a total of 8 instructors in the shop with the students staying their all day for nine straight days. We have the areas broken down starting in the freshman level covering all the basics and introduction of other categories. All years are broken into main categories. Sophomore year is Automotive electrical theory, diagnostic, and understanding of electrical components. We also cover scan tools and check engine lights, abs, manual, automatic transmission and drive axles. Junior year they study Engine rebuilding, cooling systems, brakes, steering and suspension. Senior year is a recap of all areas and they do advanced engine diagnostics and cover all areas. The students working on the Nova are students that come after school to work on it.

They are not all in automotive but some are students who didn't want our shop as a profession but really love cars and want to learn. I struggled as a student and had an extremely hard time reading. Times where different and by the time i was diagnosed with dyslexia i was in the sixth grade. I learned how to get by and reading Hot rod mag, Peterson 4 wheeler and many other magazines was my ticket to finding value in reading. My interest in cars got me through school and i see myself in some of my students. I explained to my students it is easy to give up. Hard work is hard and you have to push through it. This project gives my students a reason to read and a reason to learn. It gives them pride and confidence. It gives them value and when building something like this nova it gives them a lifetime of memories of them working hard and seeing the outcome.

      Thanks for the heads up.
When i bought it he said l92 and the tag did to. i bought it knowing it was a cast iron 6.0 with the ls3/l92 heads(minus valves) . i got l92 and l96 mixed up.

i did find the oil control rings to be solid with carbon and i may also be replacing valve guides. Have to put the dial indicator on the valve and see what i have for play.
Currently had a lot of projects waiting for parts and looking forward for everything to be coming together shortly.

Any recommendation on solid body bushings?

We have been pretty busy with researching, selling and collecting new and used parts. We have started reassembly of the engine. We installed new cam bearings, new camshaft, New rod bearings, crankshaft was cleaned up and so was the main bearings. We reused the rods, pistons and rings. We did buy new arp cylinder head bolts and harmonic balancer bolt. The ls3/l92 heads are being ported by us. The exhaust side is being opened up to match the gasket and the intake port is being cleaned up and very slightly massaged. I was able to pick up for $250 a Factory new GM ls3 flywheel, pressure plate and friction disc. We are going to try to use the oil pan that came with the 6.0 out of the van and modify it. Tring to save money where we can. We currently have had a good winter here in mass so i have been busy plowing driveways and had a gd storm last week so i was able to buy all the supplies we needed to finish porting the cylinder heads.

The transmission will be going back together shortly with the help of Mark Bowler and Craig from Bowler transmission. I received all the Factory tremec t56 parts needed to complete my C5 t56 transmission to f-body swap From Craig. We bought a GTO t56 mainshaft from gm and new seals, blocker rings and misc parts from Bowler.

We have brittany one of our welding students welding up her exhaust on her Jeep wrangler. She doesnt have her license and the jeep is staying in the shop until we can get it road worthy. Still have alot to be done.Name: 20170215_153410_zpsn7ulyk42.jpg

Huge Shout out to Bret and Jason over at ridetech for the support! I moved last year and unfortunately i have not setup my eastwood powder coating machine. We are on school vacation and besides taking care of my very pregnant wife and honey to do list i am going to get the wiring done in the garage. I am going to powder coat the spindles, caliper brackets and calipers. Looking forward to getting some pictures of the setup shortly.

Ended up getting the pistons, rods, crankshaft and camshaft installed but made a mistake when ordering parts. I ordered everything needed to swap from a single bolt camshaft to a 3 bolt but the 3 camshaft sprocket bolts. Took a few days to get them and just havent had the time to spend with them to finish up the short block.

The ford 8.8 got narrowed and purchased a set of ford 9" ends and will be having a set of custom axles made when we can.

Here we are swapping over a c5 corvette t56 mainshaft to a 2004 Gto t56 mainshaft so we could use a c5 t56 internals on a f body front plate and tailshaft. We are ready to reassemble the rest of it but unfortunately they dont drive and thier parents where there to pick them up. Hopefully this week we can spend a day after school to finish the t56 hybrid
