One thing to watch is the depth of the bucket on older cars. I'm in the process of fitting 5.75" LED headlights to my Impala. They fit but require cutting out the back of the OE headlight bucket or fabricating a new backing ring that clamps to the front trim ring.
Depth is still about 7mm more but does not need any other mods and is still recessed into the surrounds.

I have been running the Trucklite 27270C for a couple of years and love them. No modification required to install them in the standard grill 68 light buckets. They extend forward out of the retainer ring maybe a 1/4" further than a standard 7" which I have heard can be problematic with the RS headlight doors. Personally I have no complaints about the current product. If the beam can be improved it is not obvious to me. This headlight is orders of magnitude better than the stock headlights ever were just as it is.

But I do like them a lot and have had quite a few people ask me about them and where to buy
The beam can be improved, that I've learned. There is some extra "noise" in the beam. The crappy part, is that we (Rigid) had a 7" headlight with a better beam in the works before we got bought out by Trucklite. Then they felt no need for the other 7". I'll see if we can dust the cobwebs off that.

Yep, my 70 El Camino sure could use some better 5.75" lighting.

Looks like my photo host killed off the images that were posted on how to modify the headlight buckets in the Camaro for the JW parts.

But it was super easy. Just used a scroll saw to open up the backside of the bucket to accept the larger housing body. That's it.

Another method to open up the back of the bucket is to use a Hole saw. Mount it in a drill press and cut away.

Was considering these for my 67 RS Camaro. What do you guys think? Any pros/cons that jump out at you (other than price)?

Forgive me, anything is possible when you know nothing of what you are talking about. So on to my dumb question.

Can we get 5 3/4" and 7" lights that don't look like spaceship landing lights? If you made LED T3 looking lights (that actually worked better than the best halogens) it would appeal to the resto and PT crowd......and because looks "stock" doesn't step on mothertrucklites toes.

      Sooooo, get that done, please.

It's definitely on my personal list! My first priority is justifying a market for a 3" fog light, I created a post on that elsewhere in the Electrical forum.

I'm a Project Manager, and my main Design Engineer is a hotrodder, so we're both on board with what the hotrod world would like. And yes, I agree, some of the LED lights look terrible, and like bug eyes. My company even tried their hand at that awhile ago, and it looks terrible, and sells just as badly. But since we became one with Truck-lite not too long ago, we've absorbed that light and it's our primary 7" light. I'd like to even get a replacement for that because even though it's one of the best lights on the market, the beam spread can be better. I'd definitely like to do a 5-3/4" replacement light as well, but that's a harder justification, as the 7" is a big seller in the Jeep world (which is a huge part of our business), and is used on a lot of commercial applications. But I know there is demand for a nice 5-3/4" light, as sales says we do get calls asking for them.

We'll see. I'm trying to get a hotrodder's eye/influence into a predominantly 4x4 oriented company, so it might not occur overnight!

^^^THIS...THIS...THIS...THIS. I feel like the Truck-Lite 27270C is the "as good as it's going to get" version of an LED light. Fairly simply and close to OEM looking with modern convenience and safety in mind. Like many other issues the early year A-body aftermarket...little to NO support. I know it's not a bread and butter winner like the Camaro 7" application but damn. At some point I'm just going to consider it's never going to happen and do an HID retrofit although this is the one time I prefer the looks of the LED cross bar over an HID projector lens.Name: Chevelle Mine Headlight Truck-Lite 27270C.jpg

Years ago I retrofitted in a set of Acura TL HID projector housings. Something about the way the OEM headlights work... I'm not sure the aftermarket stuff can can compete with it.

      http://ultm8z.com/HID%20Projector%20...n%20Camaro.pdf

Then just recently I swapped in D2S LED bulbs from The Retrofit Source. This set up literally blows away my wife's new QX60 Infinity.

It takes some work (certainly not a bolt on like some of the newer stuff), but you can do other stuff with it that you can't get in the aftermarket.

Plenty of adequate lights with DRLs/turn signals built in. Only legit good quality one would be the JW Speaker Evolution J or J2. I already put projector hids in my car a couple years ago and love it but just ordered some J2s to compare.

Ok so you have to grind down the three tabs on the back in order for them to fit flush to the housing. I test fit an clear. It's a tight fit, but yes they fit.

So to confirm tight fit but the RS doors open/close without hitting anything. Is that correct?
