      El Camino roll bar design.

I'm looking to add a roll bar to my el Camino hopefully by the time next years course events open back up. I've made a design real quick and had it looked at by a few others that are racing g body platform cars. I'm looking for some extra opinions to make sure I get all the information I need to make a cage for my car. My few issues with the cage are that I drive the car very often (only work a mile from home). And that I have an expensive and discontinued fiberglass bed lid. So I cannot run rear tubes through the back window. I will be making a harness bar to run with my new kirkey seat for the last event I have coming up in a few weeks. But after that I will be starting on cage design.

Frame has had the openings completely braces and the purches have been removed and had a bar installed for coilovers instead

I'd maybe look at some sort of frame brace kit similar to what hpi makes for the a bodies. Unless it's the "look" you're going or literally the safety aspect (roll over) . Problem with a cage is it can be intrusive and semi permanent. With the frame stiffened up you don't need to worry about bolting and unbolting bars in the box or storage area undef the box

I'm not worried about it for stiffness. I need it for rollover protection and for harness mounting. The car sees autocross events and will be going to road course aswell.

Hold up for just a short bit and I will post pictures of mine...due to be finished any day now. No bars thru a window nor any in the bed.

Pretty sweet project! My oldest son and I are working on a 79 El Camino for him to drive when he gets his license.

Rich, if I were to install a bar in my 70, yours would be the one I would emulate. That is such a clean installation.

Many thanks to Marty Gundt of Murfreesboro TN for the roll bar installation.

Herb has been building a roll bar setup for his A body El Camino, it'd be something to give you some ideas: https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/...ight=yelcamino
