      Ford Econoline Pedal Car

I'm sharing this because, while I know it's not a protouring car, it outlines the basic steps someone with some time, basic tools and patience can follow to achieve results. The tools I used were a CNC Plasma, Bead Roller, Mag Brake and a Slip Form Roller. You can easily substitute the CNC Plasma for a cut off wheel or a hand held plasma and pick up your pattern using an overhead projector or even having a print shop plot you a 1:1 version of your parts. The Bead Roller is kind of a must have here, you could try and hammer form the lines but I wouldn't recommend it. The Mag Brake or any sheet metal brake is a must have, I'll use another shops if the parts are larger than 4', ask around as most shops don't charge much. The slip form roller is something you can farm out but it's still critical to the forming process. I did build a buck out of 3/4"MDF and it made everything go a lot faster. The rest of the stuff is just basic metal fit up, lots of hammer and dolly work but overall simple. This body is far from done but it's been about 5 days of time and I got this far.

So to recap: This was done with fairly simple tools. With a little forward planning you're not stuck in 2D when it comes to metal. A lot of time gets soaked up in fit and finish so plan for that.
