I was actually thinking of modifying the cage while the engine was out! I wanted to go from the A pillar area, through the firewall and attach it to the frame. Then attached the actual cage to the A pillar. B pillar would get attached as well. Then also, from the B pillar back to the rear frame. It would make it more like a 10 point cage instead of the 6 point it is now. That would probably cut down some of the rattles. But, its a lot of work and probably not worth it if I am just going to sell it. The new engine should tame the car down quite a bit and make it a much nicer driver, hopefully.... We will see once its back up and running.

Alright, got my Evo back on the road. It is a complete animal now! I love it. The new power is just great and what I was hoping for. So that means, its back to Bug time. This time I mean it! I really need to get it back together so I can sell it because.... well.... I got another project car.

But yes, the Bug has an engine again. Only took a year.

You know at first I really hated getting it through the door but after pulling it and putting it in so many times, I must admit that I am getting pretty good at it. From the time I got the engine/trans on the cherry picker to the time it was bolted in, only took about 30 min. I just about have it mastered but I dont think that is something to be proud of haha. Hopefully this is the last time I have to do it.

Is there enough room in there for a LS4?

Yes and no... it would physically fit but there would be no room to bolt on things like a water pump or alternator. Trust me, the thought crossed my mind, which is why I know it wont work. Haha

Got a bit more done on the bug. The engine is now mostly complete. Still have to figure out the header situation... but it's back on the ground sitting on all 4 wheels for the first time in a year.

Andrew - Todays plan is to put it all back together and then sell it. Tomorrows plan may be to keep it haha. We will see what its like once I drive it with the new engine and go from there. But most likely, its getting sold.

Engine plans are simple this time. Leave it stock! This way if it blows up, I am not replacing a $7500 engine but instead a $750 engine. Makes the wallet much happier.

The Bug actually might see some racing next month if I can get it back together in time. Looks like I may have hurt my Evos engine. 90 psi compression and 90% leak down in all cylinders. Something is not letting the exhaust valves close all the way. I am surprised it even runs with those numbers let alone run a 12.2 in the quarter. Haha

Yes please. This thing needs an "In the Paddock" episode before you sell it!!

Nope. Stock as in bone stock with no power adder. Its going to have a whopping 220whp or so now.

Let me see what I can do. My hold up right now is the harness for the engine. Ordered it 4 months ago and still waiting.... I guess I can use one that I have on the shelf if need be.

You must have missed out! Chad already did an article on it and got to be the first person to ride in it at the track! No You Tube video on it from him yet though...

Well here we are, 3 weeks later and still no progress. I am still waiting on my engine harness to be built and dont want to button up everything else until I hear the engine run. Its a used engine so we know how things can go. However, I did pop off the pan and valve cover and everything looked really good. Even pulled a rod cap to look at the bearings. Supposedly only had 30k miles on it. Guess I can do a compression test while I wait for the harness.

But in other news, since this stupid virus thing is going around, my next race is postponed until..... who knows. While that sucks it does give me more time to finish the Bug and possibly race it instead of my Evo. Guess we will just have to wait and see what happens from here.

Well, I decided to leave work early yesterday since the phones were down and I got stuff done on the Bug! If you guys previously read, I had issues with the header fitting for a couple reasons. Well all those issues have been addressed and the header now fits. So after modifying the cam sensor, shaving down the thermostat housing and welding some tabs on to the header to block off the EGR ports, I think its about ready to fire up. I am going to borrow a harness from work and then just have to make some new fuel lines and it should run, hopefully. I should have some time this weekend to make it happen!
