4L60e experts needs some help / advice on dipstick fittment

I have a 5.3 / 4L60e swap in my 71. I have one of those universal dipstcks that snakes over the top of the motor currently

I have since purchased a dipstick and tube for a 2004 GTO since those stop behind the motor

      ACDELCO 92057977

      ACDELCO 92159815

It says on the stick to use the deep transmission pan, which I have. It's like the one on the right in the pic below

I got the GTO dipstick and filler tube in and installed. Having issues with the dipstick not going all the way down.

Pulled the tube and the dipstick is sticking out past the tube about 2-3/4"

I grabbed my universal tube that was previously installed and the dipstick that came with that one only sticks out past the tube about 3/4"

So that's definitely a problem and hitting something, what i have found out is there is a "stop plate" under where the dipstick comes through. Here's an example picture that was shared with me. Look at the top left corner of the pic

So I guess my question is, do they make interchangeable "stops" that work with either the shallow or deep pan? Maybe I have the incorrect one on the transmission right now??

Did you change to the deep pan from the shallow pan, or did your transmisison always have the deep pain?

Curious, does the GTO dipstick fit the car/firewall ok? I am trying to figure out what to use on my convertible project, just got the motor and trans in it recently.

I've had this tranny for a few years now, but it seems like I added this pan after I got it when I changed the bellhousing.

So it's a good chance that it originally had a shallow pan on it. I can't remember.

I like how the GTO tube fits, it hugs the block really well and doesn't come up over the engine, stays directly behind it.

The depth of the pan has no affect on the correct full level of the transmission fluid, meaning just because you add depth doesn't mean the full mark changes. If you added the deep pan and then removed the stop completely allowing the stick to extend into the deeper section of the pan, the full mark would then be lower by the amount of added stick depth, thus negating the benefit of the deep pan. I guess what I'm saying is get the tube and stick that fit the trans and then add what ever depth pan you like.

Thanks, That's what i was kind of thinking. I guess I need to remove that "stop" since i have the correct pan for the dipstick.

I may be incorrect at what I stated above. The GTO pan, dipstick and tube require a 24209927 fluid indicator stop. You would also need the GTO filter for that pan. But I would still be careful at what level you run the fluid at. Can you compare the original dipstick tube and stick lengths to the GTO you would like to use? Don't know why GM would use a 2" longer stick for a 7/8" deeper pan.

All I can add is that full level is even with the pan rail. So whatever stick and tube you run make sure the full mark is even with the machined surface of the case that the pan bolts to. Even if that means making your own mark on the stick.

      thanks guys,

someone posted on another forum GM eliminated that stop around 2005 and GM put in a pan with a notch in it. Said part number was 24240207. I googled it and it showed that pan was used on 2004-2005 GTO's.

I'm gonna order than pan, they are around $20 shipped on eBay and give it a shot
