Super Chevy Show- Gateway Motorsports Park October 2015 Recap

      Super Chevy Show

      October 9-10, 2015
      Story by: Brandy Phillips

Across the country car enthusiast mark their calendars with car shows and race events. While some attend
just for the car show, others come for the action. The Super Chevy Car Show series offers it all from cars on
display, drag racing, autocross and even activities for the kids. With multiple events across the country
throughout the year, it’s hard not to add a Super Chevy Show to your list of events.

With help from two aspiring photographers, the Bilinski Brothers caught some of the behind the scenes action
from the Super Chevy Show at Gateway Motorsports Park. First stop: the Drag Strip

It’s hard to ignore all the noise once you enter Gateway Motorsports Park. Immediately people flock to the
drag strip to check out the action. Though it may sound like you’re sitting on the starting line, it’s not often you
get to go up close and capture cars moments before they launch.

There were plenty of cars that wanted to test their skills on the drag strip. Prior to the event, drag racing
participants had to register in order to race. There were several classes including a class where competitors
had to complete a True Street Road Course in which they drove around for 30 minutes before making 3 runs
      on the drag strip.

The Super Chevy Shows also puts a lot focus on the younger generations. Not only do they have activities such
as the Revell Make ‘n’ Take on Saturday, but come back Sunday morning and you might catch the Jr. Dragsters
competing for the win in their class.

While walking around the show the sound of engines revving was masked by the sound of tires screeching.
Cars could be found maneuvering around a course of cones, better known as an autocross.

Looking for a wider, faster autocross course to take your quite large muscle car around? Then this was your
track. The course was wider than most other autocross courses, though short with less technical elements.
This was defiantly a course for your bigger vehicles.

Needing a break from all the noise (though you could never really get away from it), the last stop was the car
show itself. Though the Super Chevy Show had an abundant amount of activities going on all at once, several
spectators just wanted to see the cars.

Vehicles lined the pavement and grass as spectators made their way between the aisles to check out the cars
up close. The cool this about the Super Chevy Show in Illinois is that the pro-touring culture is quite different
than say California, Tennessee or even North Carolina.

It is inspiring to see new activities like autocross at these Super Chevy Shows. For some of the locals this
might be their only chance to come out and take a run or two. It only takes one time for someone to get
hooked. No matter if its autocross, drag racing or even redefining the meaning of pro-touring with their build,
our community still continues to grow across the country.

We wrap up this recap with a huge thank you to the Bilinski Brothers. I was fortunate enough to cross paths
with Daniel and Nicolas at a Cars and Coffee event in Southern California. They were aspiring photographers
still in high school at time. The twins had taken photography class since freshman year and continued until
they were seniors. Wanting to expand their knowledge about photography and grow their passion, they
started attending car events. Both Nicolas and Daniel moved to Illinois for college this past summer, but lucky
for us have been shooting cars and events in between school and sports. We hope you enjoyed their photos. If
