A new awakening for my 68 Camaro

I’ve had this car since 1993. It’s gone from my high school daily driver to a dust collector in the garage. I’ve managed to hold on to it when everyone said I’d sell it, college, marriage, kids, buying a house and divorce. I’ve been dreaming of getting some stuff done to it so I can drive it again and this time not park it in the garage for 10+ years.

Before I parked it I was dreaming of doing fuel injection but that old 650 Holley was good enough. Now that FI is even better than ever its time to dump the double pumper.

I’ve been reading, planning and spending way too much money for over a year. I’m finally ready to start turning some wrenches again or actually crimping a lot of wire.

      I’ve decided to:
      - trunk mount the battery
      - install Holley Terminator EFI
      - install hyperspark ignition
      - upgrade a bunch of wiring including better power distribution and relays
      - milspec bulkhead (makes sense to cut a new Holley harness in half
      - pwm fan controller

There’s a lot of side projects to this so it’s going to take me a while. But now for your guys favorite part some car part porn.

Well like I said there’s a lot of side projects. So rear brake swap is started.

Long ago I bought this rear Wilwood kit and I always hated it. The external park brake calipers are no good.

So in order to match the front C5 setup I got the C5 park brake kit from Kore3. Name: IMG_5792.jpg

Got home tonight and stripped that wilwood stuff off. Name: IMG_5791.jpg

And went to work assembling the backing plates.

Not as much progress as is hoped today. Dropped the axles off at a local machine shop on Friday. He turned the flange down to 5.940” and added the 1/8x45 chamfer.

Found a couple holes on the kore3 axle bracket missing threads. Busted out dads old tap and die kit and got er done.

Got the left side kit installed but found out somehow I have two right side calipers instead of the two left sides I need.

It's a C6 vette "style" pwm that will be controlled by the Holley ECU. It's actually the FCM117k from Gates.

Grabbing time to work on the car when I can. Some minor hiccups getting the Kore3 kit on but finally in the home stretch park brake cables are next. My first time bending hard lines. The NiCopp bends easy.

Had some time to change plugs bring it up on TDC and drop the Hyperspark too.

Congrats on getting back to your car. I know the feeling. Mine has been down for 11 years now. I've been doing a little at a time and am taking some time off from work in a few weeks. I am so close to it being done. This is the year I get to drive it again!!

Good luck, get it done, and drive the hell out of it!

Well I’ve been plugging away when I can which is mostly evening after work. Just about wrapped up the Kore3 install (just park brake cables left).
I just had painted metal on the underside so while I had the tank out I applied some Second skin spectrum from above the rear end to the back. I painted about 4-5 coats using cheap brushes. Surprisingly it turned out ok. The Tanks Inc tank went in like butter. Installed the C5 FPR replaced the 5/16 main fuel line with 3/8 finally.
Got the battery installed in the trunk and installed the Holley ECU in the glove box.

I decided for now to hold off on putting the mil spec bulkhead in the harness since I think I’m going to wind up building a custom harness later to clean up all the wiring. Everything in the Holley kit is long and makes it cluttered.

So temporary I ran the harness through the old blower motor hole.

Getting closer. Hope to have it running in another week. Mostly battery cables and some wiring left to do. Name: IMG_6262.jpg
