36 Plymouth Roadster at R.A.W. RODS Restorations & Customs

This is a 36 Plymouth Roadster that our custom has brought us from another shop. He decided it was not going in the direction he wanted so now we have the opportunity to make it what he wants. It will be running a IFS, 4 LINK rear with a 9in 4 wheel disk brakes and a 6.1 Hemi. The previous shop had cut the fire wall and moved it back 5" to get the engine to fit. So that has left us with little room inside under the dash for stuff. So one of the things were going to do is use a lot of push button stuff even the shifter will be the new Performance Automatic's Push Button Shifter! The Custom also wants to keep it a little on the old school on the outside but everything else you don't see up to date. So here is what we were given.

      Let the tear down begin!

We stripped the frame back down so we could start fresh.

Well as much as I hate to tell its a Fatman front end that the previous shop installed. Not that I don't like there product but the last two times we have had to deal with them there customer service has sucked. So I'll leave it at that.

After we got the frame cleaned up with finished some of the welding and boxing on the 4 link the other shop left undone. We then started working on the two separate belly pans to hide all the stuff going under this car.

Here were just laying out the metal letting the frame be our template.

We were able to come up with a small support frame for the middle of the body so we could get it on the rotisserie. I needed access to the inner and outer rockers and didn't want the body to bend in the middle. As you can see the sides of the body are in pretty bad order.

Instead of making a new thread on this 36 Plymouth, Ill just start from here and update all the pictures and info. We have been working back and forth on this 36 Plymouth for a good custom of ours. We have finally got all the rust repaired and the previous bad body work that was hidden under the old paint.

This rear wheel tubs were pretty rusted out so we made new ones. A new trunk Pan, lower quarters and rocker were also made here in the shop.

The rear lower apron also had to be redone because is was full of rust and bondo. We also removed the stock door hinges and installed hidden hinges for a much cleaner look.

New Bare claw latches for better safety. We pressed out some patches for our connectors in the doors. Makes for a cleaner look I think.

The cowl panel also got some love. This is something the custom want to have so we moved the hinges to make for a much better gap.

The front fenders were riveted together from the factory to make them one unit but we decided to tig the join so they would be one and now seam sealer needed. Don't want that wax in the crack.....

A 3rd brake light was also requested by the customer. We took one of street works Micro leds and installed it just behind the convertible top area. Its small but very bright!

We also made a new trans cover and extension off the dash so we could extra space for gauges and other things.

Thanks Motown, we have been so busy its been hard to get on here and do updates.

We have been modifying the stock hood center pivot point to work like a 32 ford. The 36 plymouths didn't work well from the factory and we wanted to have it were the hood sides could stay open at the same time. Before one side laid on the other so that wasn't going to for for us. We made and new air shield for the front grill to direct the air flow up into the radiator.

We made the rods to hold the grill out of aluminum and we will also mill a grove in them to hide led lights to light up the engine bay.

We also redid the exhaust tips from what the other shop had. They had them coming out of the back like a truck so we moved them up and tucked them. Also Fab some close out panels to clean up the look from the bottom and help protect the driver side gas line from rocks.

While the car was together I had to make a custom power steering reservoir. With the hemi taking all the room i had one spot between the belt and head.
