I know there isn't a shift lever on the trans but I want the thing that tells the trans what to do on the column. That might be difficult it seems.

      Bummed about the Cougar.

That is going to be difficult.

Evidence is pointing towards a lifter issue...

Drained the oil and it was full of copper glitter. Cut the filter open and it was full of metal particles.

Already planning the next engine build...It might even be a Ford this time!

Careful what you post. All the haters are gonna say "I told you so" lol. Maybe they make some special valve covers to make a ford engine look like an LS just so no one knows you Godzilla swapped an LS swapped ford ;).

Apparently I am not done with the LS in the Cougar. I needed a car to take to LS Fest in September and this was the most likely candidate that I could get on the road in time.

This is a GM LSA long block. The plan is to put the blower on top and send it. I am doing a couple of upgrades, which include a LS9 cam, Comp Cams conical springs, pushrods, and an ATI balancer with a 10% overdrive lower pulley.

The other big change to the drivetrain is the ZF8HP70 transmission with the TurboLamik TCU and Domiworks adapter.

Very nice! I'm going through the same thing with my Cutlass unfortunately. Swapping my LS2 for a new LY6 long block. I would have love to had an LSA LB though....lol

This is probably one of the last few, new LSA engines out there.

I'll be following more closely. I'm considering the swap for my Nova.

I am making a little progress as time allows. The engine needs to be ready to get dropped in by the third weekend in July. That is when I have my buddies BA and Tom coming to help with the engine swap.

Currently, the Cougar has the older Hooker cast iron manifolds with the 2.25" outlets. These are a newer Hooker design that have a 2.5" outlet and are cast out of stainless steel. If time allows, I will Cerakote these to reduce under-hood temperatures. The outlets are in exactly the same location as the older manifolds, so no exhaust modifications will be necessary.

There are a few things to note here. The stock LSA cam uses a single bolt cam gear and it has been removed and replaced with a LS9 cam, which uses a 3 bolt cam gear. The cam gear bolts are from ARP.

I also swapped out the oil pump for a Melling 10296 pump. Here you can also see my OG Saccity Corvette oil pump alignment tool.

      I like these Loctite sticks.

Here you can see the ATI balancer hub installed, along with the AC compressor pulley. I also decided to add a timing pointer, mostly because I am curious.

I used the piston stop method to find true TDC and aligned the pointer accordingly. To be honest, with the blower pulley sitting in front of the balancer, there is very little hope of being able to read the timing. But there it is anyway...

Aren't your exhaust flanges still 2.25?

Semi related dumb request, can you weigh one of the stainless ones?

The flanges are 2.5" and the driver's side manifold was just a hair under 12 pounds according to the bathroom scale.

I wasn't aware of this, but apparently the LSA timing chain tensioner tends to fail. I swapped it out for the LS2 style chain damper.

This was a low mileage 8HP70 from a RWD Dodge car. It is already modified for use with the TurboLamik TCU.

I swapped in a new oil pan which also has the filter assembly built in.

The goal is to have everything on this engine ready to go by mid July, so on the weekend of the engine swap the old engine can come out and this one gets dropped in with minimal effort.
