I built it to drive. After trailering to friends in Elkton, Ky, I left this a.m. for central Florida. Stopped at Bulldawg Musclecars in Acworth, GA and finally meet Ben, SDArt. He has work to do,but his Olds wagon is going to be pretty cool. Hired him to do a rendering of the El Camino.

Drove in about 5 hours of rain, some very heavy. I will say that the BF Goodrich KDW's handled the wet very well although I did pull off a couple times and waited for it to let up. Didn't wish to push the issue.

The Schwartz Performance chassis provides a very comfortable ride with the ridetech coilovers. On Sunday I'll adjust the shock and thrash it on the autocross in Geneva, FL with my cousin. Best of both worlds.

      Not a good day.

35 miles from my aunts house in Florida, I lost oil pressure. Had it towed the remaining distance. It's now down a cylinder or two. Looking for options to get it back to the truck in Kentucky. Possibly renting a uhaul and trailer. Really sucks but we'll rebuild or replace. I had a lot of fun with this $1400 motor and transmission. I think it will cost a little bit more to replace the engine.

Sorry to hear about the engine, when you find out what caused the problem let us know, Ive read of a few LS engines having the same issue when driven hard. At least on the bright side it did it now and not a few days before you went to optima.

Where in FL are you? Where in KY does it need to get to? I might have an idea to get the car back to your truck...

I'm in Kissimmee and need to go back to Elkton, Ky which is an hour north of Nashville.

Might sound crazy, but if you wanted to cover gas $ maybe I could come down in the wagon, you could rent a tow dolly and I could haul you back to KY. You'd have to pull the drive shaft and get a plug for the trans. I'm about 10.5 mpg towing and about 18+ empty. I'd estimate maybe about $500 in gas to get down there, haul you back to KY, then get back home to Acworth. Might be cheaper than renting a truck, trailer and gas? I could head down on the first day, stay overnight and head out early the next am. I'm seeing about 12 hours from FL to KY, and my car tows just fine at 70 mph so we could easily make it in one day, or we could stop at my place in Acworth over night and make it in two days.

When were you planning on heading back?

This is a great offer but I am flying into Nashville on 2/17 and bringing the truck back down here to get it back home. Ticket was $115. Would cost in rentals for a truck and trailer over $900 plus fuel to tow to Clarksville, TN.

Finally home with the Monte. Tomorrow I'll get it in the shop and begin the process of pulling the LS1 out and find what failed. Hopefully we can rebuild it. Worse case is a new long block. I think I need to stick with an LS1 or LS2 since the FAST kit i used is specific for it.

Hey there. I saw your car at the University Ave cruise in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Iowa last summer. I pretty much crawled all over checking out the Schwartz setup/LS combo. Pretty nice setup you have yourself there! I was looking for "the owner" but he was nowhere to be found at the time. Anyhow, sweet ride!

Looks like cylinder #8 is unhappy. I'll have the engine out in the morning. Sure hope I can salvage it

Finished pulling the engine this a.m. And then proceded to tear it down. First pulled the passenger head knowing this was where the issue was, wrong. Everything looked great, so off with the drivers head and same story. Next was the pan. Walla, #6 rod bearing. Now this is the extent of my engine ability, someone else can repair and reassemble it. As much as I would love to do it I have zero experience and don't want to pull it again in a few month because I messed up. May check into a strokes kit, now would be the time.

for themoney a texas speedor equal short or long block is hard to beat for the price and quality, by the time the machine is done new parts bought, it is pinchin pennies to justify trying to rebuild a current engine, especialy if your gonna possible upgrade
