For a 68 Chevelle.. will be installing c5 brakes and Hotchkis Coil spring 1" drop... I will be using the car for street driving and back roads driving and maybe some touring in the near future.

From what I have heard the hotchkis valved Bilsteins would be a good choice and should be budget friendly.

Hotchkis shocks are made by Bilstein for Hotchkis are tuned for Hotchkis springs. If you want easy adjustability, the QA1s are the way to go. Just make sure you match the rears to the front.

HOTCHKIS HPS1000 featuring unique valving specifically designed for the A-Body. We developed the settings through our on track testing and they work fantastically with our other suspension components. You'll find they provide excellent performance at a reasonable price.

If you are going to use the Hotchkis springs, or a rate similar to theirs, I suggest using the Hotchkis Bilsteins.

I just tested a set of Hotchkis Bilsteins combined with my springs. The rates are almost the same on the springs, but the Hotchkis valving is far superior to the previous Bilsteins the car had.

I do like the idea of the adjustable QA1 shocks.. but are they worth the price.

If the ability to adjust for a cushy ride sometimes (trip) and a extra firm ride sometimes (autocross), then Teh QA1 are neat because they are simple to adjust. If you just want a really good tuned shock in a sport setting, the hotchkis are perfect for their springs. You never said what your doing in the rear?

the rears lol.. ummm right now are air shocks.. lol... i know... there bad to have... i bought these 7 years ageo when i was in high school and i thought it was the coolest thing... now i want the lower look so prob next fall i'm going to put a new rear end.. either a ford 9" or a 12bolt chevy with prob 3" coil spring drop. and match the shocks to the front.. i"ll will say one thing... the air shocks have hold up very well.
