First gen Firebird owners- Which hood to reproduce in Carbon?

      Alright guys-

You asked, we listened. We are trying to figure out which hood is the most sought after hood for the 67-69 Firebirds. Please post up if you would like to see one of these made for your car and vote on which one to make. Options are:

      Flat
      400
      T/A
      Custom

Price point might be slightly higher than the Camaro hood only because of the larger size and the fact you don't have a header panel. We are looking into doing a cowl panel as well, and as you know, the rear deck lid will transfer over from the camaro.

2nd gen guys- We didn't forget you. thanks to Ty Ingle we have the lower front valance, nose, hood, and tail panel for the 70-73 getting ready to be tooled up.

Trans Am is what I voted for, but I must say a Firebird hood with a stinger scoop is pretty sexy! but I find the Firebird guy less likely then Camaro guys to step out of the box.

As for price point, Firebird guys are used to paying more for everything.

My vote is for the T/A hood, it seems to be the one most used for pro-touring builds. It would also be great if someone came up with scoop inserts that actually fit. The current fiberglass ones don't fit in the fiberglass hoods sold by The Parts Place. I'm guessing they don't fit in the metal reproduction hood either.

I voted towards custom, but any offerings from Anvil will certainly be a welcome addition in my book! There really isn't much out there for firebird hoods at the moment. Most fiberglass companies only offer the massive by huge drag scoop hoods alongside the meager stock offerings. If you want anything else, you have to pay more for a custom job or build it yourself.

I have a custom made 2" cowl hood from VFN on my bird at the moment, but I will be watching with great interest to see what you guys can come up with.

I think whatever gets made it needs more clearance. maybe a 2" rise in the center. Might try posting this over at the PY forums as well. I think if you do a search over there you will find Pontiac guys are willing to spend the money, but we are tired of getting second rate parts (i.e. repro body parts)

I prefer the 400 hood over the Trans Am.

I also considered having a Stingray scoop mounted to a stock flat hood. I thought it was pretty original, but I actually found someone else who already did it, and it looked very good.

If you do go 400, consider this:

      http://www.spottsperformance.com/body.htm

Although if it's much more than a Camaro hood, I doubt you'll get much interest.

My vote is custom. I currently have a 5" cowl hood on my 69 firebird and it looks giant. I like the look of the cowl hood but I think if it was 2 or 3 inch high it would be perfect. Don't laugh but think a L-88 style hood would look nice on a 69 firebird.

The 400 hoods are still fairly easy to get, are already repoped in steel and are also available in a taller fiberglass version (Super 400).

Go with the Trans Am hood. Just about the baddest-looking hood on the planet in my opinion, with scoops located where they will actually provide Ram Air.

Without question the '69 T/A hood is the most sought-after 1st-gen Firebird hood.

I voted Trans Am. What time frame are you working on?

I have a fiberglass T/A hood and am hoping I will be ready for paint this Fall. The fiberglass hood will require lots of work, so a Carbon Fiber option may be attractive especially with the silver body color of my car.

Also add a T/A rear spoiler and I would definitely be sold!

Agreed, I've seen some nice hoods that are basically a raised center portion to act as a cowl induction.

The Orts hood looks good, but the one where it looks like a cowl induction slapped onto a flat hood looks like cr@p.

Only problem with the Ort's is, it's way too high. About 2 to 3 inches would do it.

Like this one on my 2002 4th-gen WS6? The scoop placement and overall shape looks a lot like the '69 T/A hood.

t/a hood is my vote as well. I plan to use one in my upcoming t/a build so another option would be nice

I voted for TA but anything is better than one of those 6in plus clow hoods. I have a 400 firebird stock hood, with working vents in the hood.

That's a Stinger hood. The stock Bird hood has the raised center a little wider, but looks good and works well with the factory Stinger scoop.

I voted for a TA style hood.

But you know I'd like to see a TA style but a little raise that contiues into a low cowl induction. Much like the 4gen style bulge.

Just to get you a slightly closer look at the Stinger hood (although on a 68 Camaro).
I think if you could section the rear portion and kill two birds with one stone, something different and more room under hood ?
