      II Much dash insert

I've been using the Covans dash insert (the cheesy plastic one). After taking considerable abuse from my friend John Ulaszek at RTTH 4 this past weekend, I made one out of aluminum. It still has some "body" work to be done prior to paint, but this is what I came up with.

That looks great John and should be a definate improvement over the Covan's dash. Awesome work as always.

Can't you tell your friends to 'get a room' stop abusing your dash, it's not a foot rest.... Anyways the aluminum looks way better and should stand up better to his abuse.

It's ok, he's making a billet glovebox door to offset it.

      More pics

Here's a few with the insert in place in the car.

ps. Scope creep occurs before the product is completed and accepted by the customer. Once the product is accepted, additional changes are called "change requests" (or "CR", as in see-are). So this is the dash insert CR. I've already finished the braided line CR, the PS remote reservoir CR, the clutch CR, and the PCV CR.

      John,

It looks like you have a ididit column, and I like the look of the Tekniq adapter. Were you able to find a kit or did you have to buy the adapter and snap off system individually? Part # ? I have a MoMo and was worried about the aluminum adpater I bought being strong enough for heavy duty track use.

Funny stuff! I think Kyle said that just to sell me some double adjustables. Anyway, it is scheduled after the Fuel Tank and Pump CR.

I had to buy the parts individually. The tech support at Tekniq was pretty good, and we got something to work on the first try. It was hard work getting the adapter on to the steering shaft, though. I hope I never have to remove it.

You and I have talked about that product in the past. What was the roadblock to getting the adapter onto the shaft?

It was just a very very tight fit. It was everything my steering wheel install tool could handle, and the last 1/2" or so was especially tight. I'm sure it will never fall off.

Did they create a specific SKU for yours?

If so, let me know what it is and what column you went with so I don't have to reinvent that.......wheel.
