Dewil's Camaro -68
Hi everyone!
i have been posting on a Swedish forum but the muscle car scene is so much smaller so I thought I should post a thread here as well to get the benefit of your experience!:)
i have had the Camaro for about 4 years and though its nice and sound it lacks the customized details to make it mine.
About the car:
engine. 383 stroker, Brodix heads, Erson cam, dellorto drla 48 carbs, and more (I haven't built it myself so I have to look up more details)
3" x-pipe exhaust
wheels. OZ Mito 18" with 245 front and 295 rrear
it also supposedly have one hell of a sound system.
what I'm going to do:
change wheels to something more "classic racing". Looking at aero wheels 15" with meaty tires. Good year billboards would be great but seems to be hard (impossible?) to come by street legal ones, so now I think bf Goodrich street radials.
will have to get new disc brakes that fit into the wheels. Right now there are big corvette c6 brakes. Great for stopping but not the look I'm after.
im going to re-paint it. Dark metallic grey with black nose stripe and flat clear over it all. Badges, rear bumper and other Crome parts high gloss black.
perhaps shaving the drip rails.
interior: thinking of using black alcantara with big stitching, mould the gauge dashes in matte carbon fiber along with other "mouldable" plastic parts. Will be milling and lathing a lot of small details, knobs etc. perhaps also making a custom steering wheel.

This project will take some time since I'm right now making the engine bay the way I want it and I also have a job, wife, kid, dog that demands my attention.
Here is a link to the Swedish forum if you want to see more pics and practice understanding Swedish...

The engine died on me last time I drove. The distributor rotor had come loose and the cap was done, so I bought a new one. Didn't start. Thought I'd clean the spark plugs and seven came out fine, one didn't... Aluminum threads gone.. :( so while having the engine apart and helicoiling the threads I put some paint on it just so it wouldn't be just repairing but a little renewing. The engine bay will be white, black and red details.

The original fender braces are not much fun so a couple of hours later..

This is where I'm at now! The original air filter just sucked air through a corse hole. Not even rounded edges... Just doesn't seem optimal. So I made new plastic spacers with oversized holes. Black is new, white is old

Then made a prototype mini velocity stack. Seems to work.

The real ones I make have a greater radius and will eventually be milled and drilled to go over the carb-studs.
Crude

After some file and sandpaper work in the mill

Now I have made 3/8 and it takes time.. Almost a shame to put air filter over them... Well it feels good at least not to take the easy route.
Thanks for stopping by and I will post as progress is made.

I love the machining work you are doing! Gives me some ideas to make on my mill and lathe. Keep it up!

Your Camaro looks good! I'm guessing your a machinist. Your parts look awesome. If your in the market for letting me have those fender braces, I'm for it! lol. Those are nice! I have been to Sweden, in 2000 I was in Gothenburg for about a week and a half. Loved it there.
Keep up the good work.

I like it keep the build pics coming.

Thanks for the nice comments! Glad if I inspire machining work. :)
I'm not a machinist, I work with salesmanagement so it's nice to actually create something with your "hands" rather than just working with numbers and talking to people. Sort of meditative.
I hope to get a bigger lathe and mill this summer after tiling the garage floor, the one I have now have its limitations in size which means smaller parts and smaller cuts... Sometimes more frustration than meditation hahah.

Wow looks amazing what you are doing!! :)

Fender braces are sick! I like the OZ's on there

Good looking car. Wish I had access to a mill and lathe.

Thanks guys!
The OZ:s are nice but I'm going to sell them and get either slotmags (black powdercoated) or aero Wheels, 15". =)
Yes I'm pretty happy with how the fenderbraces came out. I Think i will have the same carbonfibertube with aluminum design on the doorstraps(?) on the inside of the door. I Think you know what I mean.
A mill and lathe is such a freedom. I use it all the time and it doesn´t have to be a big machine. Mine is about as small as they get (wich was good when I didn´t have a garage). It has its limitations ofcource but you can get alot of things done.
Its also easyer to justify a bigger and more expensive lathe/mill when you know you use it alot.
This summer i will tile the garagefloor (when i can take all things outside and dont have to be to afraid of rain) and after that invest in some bigger Machines.
This is the one I currently have:

Thanks Luv ang Gil!
When i find myself out of things to do ill start manufacturing carbon fender braces full time!
In the meanwhile I finally got all of my velocity stacks done. To be honest they were a real pita. About 2,5 hours each..
Anyway the result looks good and hopefully makes some sort of difference from before.

Thanks! :)
I now have cleaned the airfilters, connected the hoses from transmission to radiator, sucessfully remover the drainplugs in the block and drained the coolant.
Will flush the coolinsystem and then refill with red or blue coolant. Which one is better?
I am also considering switching the steeringbox to one with more feel... Need to read up on it a little more first.
Lastly i have started to mill the new brake mc lid. Will probobly go for a ribbed design like the valvecovers.

Wow you guys take it to a whole new level over there...

Do you know when you might have my fender braces for my Camaro done?...... I know wishful thinking. I am curious as to what the size of the carbon fiber tubing is and where you bought it.. Really looks good so far..
