The West Coast Fires up for optima’s Ultimate Street Car Series

The early T-bird gets the invitation to the optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) or maybe not. It doesn’t really matter, because there were no Thunderbirds registered for the second stop in OPTIMA’s 2024 Ultimate Street Car series, but there were plenty of Pro-Touring cars and trucks between the Speedtech GTV Class and the No-Limit Engineering GTT Class. Ryan Breezee’s ’69 Camaro continues to turn in stellar performances and at Thunderhill, he was the only entry from either class that notched a top-10 overall finish, beating out several late model Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs and even a few Teslas.

The Camaros of Brian Hobaugh and Rick Ray also turned in strong runs, as did the ’70 Corvette of Garrett Randall, which gave them all an early start on what could be a top-10 season in points. Over on the truck side, David Carroll’s ’74 Blazer took home the class win and the invitation to Las Vegas, while the rest of the class all turned in solid performances. Last season, a competitor in the truck class needed to average 343 points in their best two events to finish inside the top-10 in points and all six trucks eclipsed that mark at Thunderhill. Points will be much harder to come by as the season rolls on. The fields will get bigger, starting at the next event, which is sold-out for competitors at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca.

These cars and trucks may not be birds and points may not be worms, but for those that ran early in the season, their readiness could prove to be very valuable come November. Stay tuned for the next round and be sure to check out www.DriveUSCA.com to see how you can get involved in your street car or truck!
