My first was a 1955 cheverolet 4 door sedan. Had a 327, 4bbl, 3 speed on the floor. Ran like a stripped ape until I blew the motor up. Then called a salvage yard to come and get it.

In '86 I had an '84 Trans Am with an anemic 305. FWIW, I could fit a Marshall 1/2 stack in there!! Looked cool for the time, but the engine missed bad any time I got on it. Now that I know more, I'm pretty sure the timing was off. Wonder if my dad had anything to do with that. Hmmmmmmm...

My first was 78 firebird formula. Had 135hp 2bbl & 2:41 peg leg rear. My aunt bought the car brand new & I bought it at 16. . It was in exc. shape. I kept it 3 years and did as many mods to it as I could afford, as I worked at a speed shop. Pillaged the junkyard for 3.08 posi. Sold it for a 3rd gen Z28. Wish I still had it. I may build one down the road....

My first car was a big block Challenger but I switched to Chevy products early on, mostly due to the cost of performance parts. That is why I have this itch to build one more Challenger to make up for the unfulfilled dream of having a killer one in my youth.

First, I have to finish the project I have so it may be a few years away.

Mine was a 1981 Trans Am. Did a restoration on it with my Dad and enjoyed it up till I went to College and needed to sell it for tuition money. I kept the build sheet for it and think about trying to find it and buying it back someday.

My first car was a 57 Chevy hardtop. Walked past the car on my way to school for years, then one day saw the car was for sale and bought it. Never forget, the car had purple and white shag carpet, though the rest of the interior was original.

I always say that the 69 was my first car, but technically it was my second car, but I don't count the first one cause I wasn't even 16 yet.
74 Camaro that was "supposedly" a late 70's early 80's show car. Wheels had been changed and it had some age...!! It had that awesome paint job and red crushed velvet interior. Chrome slapper bars (with lights of course), I imagine it was pretty cool in the day with the right wheels!
But, I would so rock this thing now if I still had it!! LOL!!

1962 International 4x4 with manual steering and dealer installed A/C. It also had the 345ci V8 with the counter rotating cam. Traded 2 broken r/c cars and 150 bucks for it when I was 16. Dad made me get rid of it when I was 17. Wish I still had it.

My 1988 GMC Sierra 4x4 that I'm going to start building soon. Truck was in awesome shape when I got it other than th cab corners and the body started falling away pretty fast but it had a 135-140db stereo in it so that was pretty cool, put the poor thing thruogh hell treating it like a prerunner in fields and ditches.

My first car was a '32 five window. Bought the shell at 14 and it sat in the driveway "mocked up" for two years. Finally realized I didn't have the tools, talent or money to do anything other than look at it. Sold it and bought a '67 VW. My dad wouldn't let me park this foreign car in the driveway. I paid $300 for it. Funniest thing to do in a bug? Find a field full of water and drive off into it at 50 mph. The pan hydroplanes and you get to do crazy spins. It never got stuck and it always putted out. Drooled over the '69 Camaro shell in the neighbors driveway and finally bought one. Traded for a '64 'Vette roller and so on and so forth until some how I ended up with my 'Cuda.

First car my freshman year of HS was a 1974 El Camino with a 454. Got 7 mpg on a good day and if you floored it, you could watch the needle move on the gas gauge. Replaced that car senior year with a 1968 Torino GT convertible with a 390 that I could get 12 mpg out of if I was light on the gas pedal. Went through boring cars in college and picked up the first Camaro after finishing graduate school in 1992 when I purchased the last of the 3rd gens new off the lot.

Mine was a 1973 Nova SS Hatchback 4speed .Green with a black landeau top Crager 14 x 7 S/S wheels .D60 x14 front, and G60 x14 Positraction tires.Eldelbrock Street Master intake manifold. Headman headers with California turbo mufflers. I broke the Saginaw that came in the car.And replaced with a Muncie. It was fun car to drive. But the area around the hatch started get really bad (rust wise). So I got my Camaro. I like to watch road racing ,even more than the other type of motorsports.I grew up during the era of the Can-Am and Trans-Am road racing. So I started building Pro-touring Cars before they were called that.

My first car was back around '82 or so, I didn't even have my drivers permit yet. My Dad always bought and sold used cars as a side, so I grew up around cars and wheelin' & dealin' :) Dad took trade in a '70 Barracuda CONVERTIBLE, 318, AT, dark green with white interior and top, and a solid car. It had a bad rear-end, but he only had (if I remember right) about $800 or $1000 dollars in it, and I had saved that much money toward my first car. So... I grabbed it.

Dad helped me find a good rear and I swapped that out and got it running. I drove it around our community, and would occasionally sneak it out on the road (no permit or license at the time, I was 14). After having it around for awhile, a guy made me an offer of $2500 cash for it, and seeing that I only had a grand or so in it, I jumped all over it. Man I regret that to this day. Worst thing is, the next car I bought with that money was an old Mustang II :banghead:

I'll have to see if I can dig up some pics from my parents house and post them up.

A lot of cool stories !

Mine was a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula. It came with a 350 but my friend and I scrounged around and found a 400 to build with a Ram Air IV cam and "670" heads. Swapped out the 2.77 rear for a 3.42 limited slip. I loved that car. Sold it while I was in the military. I hope to build one like it some day.

OK Gang, how about this one, back (Yea, way back) when I was 16 and had just gotten my license, my father announced that I would never be driving his (69 Buick Rivera, 455 CID, which of course I did when he and my mother would take off for a week) or drive my mother's brand new Buick Regal (which ended up with me after she passed).

So armed with a whopping $450 In cash, out I went and after borrowing $150 from my brother-in-law, home I drove in my just purchased 1965 Old 442 with 400 CID engine and 2-spd power glide trans with 10-bolt posi rear. It was super clean! Over the following 3 years I bored, cammed, stroked, intake, carb, intake, etc, etc to the engine, pro built Turbo 375 short tail (short version 400) trans with all B&M and HD parts. The list goes on and on. Suspension, gears, axels, several sets of wheels and tires and ..........ended up with full on race car (drag strip) that I could no longer drive on the street. Boy did I learn a life lesson! Don't get carried away just because you can!

By the way, virtually every cent I earned during that time went into the car. That and an amazing amount of wheeling and dealing. Hot Rodding (as then applied to all muscle cars) was very alive and well and did not cost near what our sport costs today. It was VERY common to meet on the street (hot rods were everywhere and driven every day) and agree to swap wheels or even engine parts. Very cool! Total trust existed. I will close with one of my favorite memories of something only a kid would do and of course that was me. I had just completed my new trans install and since I had to custom mount the trans cross member, my exhaust was now out of alignment.

So naturally I took it off and then found (via yellow pages, remember those?) a muffler shop that did custom systems. After I had explained what I needed, they agreed that since it would take almost all day, they would open the shop for me on a Sunday but I had to get there by 8AM. So on that appointed Sunday at around 7:15 in the morning I went outside and started my car and then turned it off. This to get it warmed up without letting it run. I did this several times as I was parked outside of my parents house in a San Francisco very residential neighborhood and I was running OPEN HEADERS! Yep, young and dumb I was. The engine had so much torque that once I left it running, without having to kick it down, at idle and and in gear, it damn near pulled up the hill where I could then coast downhill for blocks and blocks until I was out of the neighborhoods and put my foot down on the peddle.

By the time I reached the muffler shop I could see the shop guys standing outside. I was sure I was late (no watch). As I pulled in the driveway, I could see their mouths moving and arms waving but of course, could not hear anything over the sound of my car. I attempted to pull in and 2 guys jumped in front, I was going very slow. They were giving me the "kill" sign and I turned the key off. It seems they were outside for 10 minutes before they even saw me as they heard me coming. They didn't want me to pull in the garage because stuff was falling off the walls. They were simply amazed I had gotten away at that time of the day on a Sunday with driving the almost 15 miles without getting arrested! Naturally they built one hell of a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system with quick disconnects should I want to run the open headers again. Yes Sir, those were fun times! Thanks All!

Present ride is 1967 RS Camaro, built 327 (can't help myself), TKO 5spd, 12-bolt posi, pics coming soon

First was a 71 Chevelle. Bought it, turned out to be a POS. Spent a few summers, winters, spings, falls, and just about every holiday working on that car. I never hit the road and eventaully got cut up. I drove an 1989 S15 GMC Jimmy (the battlewagon) during the process...and when I mean I drove it... I DROVE it. It eventually got replaced and turned into a mad scientist expirament. Everything we could think of went into that motor and it never quit. We even "supercharged" it with a leaf blower and some duct tape to see what would happen. That thing is still out there somewhere.

'81 Camaro Z28. Black, T-Tops, gold and silver striping down the side. I got it when I was 15 and wasn't allowed to drive it by myself, had to be with one of my parents. Me and my friends would still take it out when my parents weren't around. It reminded me of the Batmobile because you could hear the air induction hood sucking in the air with a stiff kick to the throttle. I was a stupid teenager though, my friends all had newer cars and I wanted one also. I got an Acura Integra instead and to this day I still regret it. That car was a blast. Ain't nothing like running 100 mph down a winding country road with the t-tops off.

My very first car was a 68 Camaro that I bought at 14 and was in pretty rough shape. It had lots of rust in the floor pans and trunk pan but was pretty solid otherwise. It had a 250 6 cyl in it that someone had swapped from the original 327 (yes, someone swapped the original 327 for a 250 6 cal!) but still had the original powerglide transmission. It had no interior, no wiring under the hood exc for a bulkhead connector with about 2-4 inches of wire hanging, no wheels and tires either. I found seats and various parts for it at a place my uncle knew about on the Missouri side of the Quincy IL bridge. All together I had a total of $90 in it! The 250 ran and the transmission even worked. That winter we had a good bit of snow so my brother and I took turns doing donuts in the front yard with it. It was pretty much the only time I ever got to drive it. Sometime in there we built a 283 and my brother had the local machine shop rebuild the Powerglide. We moved several times and I bought the car with me the first couple of times but when we moved to Georgia I had to leave it behind. My brother stayed in Mo, but he eventually sold it since he didn't have the space to store it anymore. In an unfortunate turn of events my brother wrecked his 68 Camaro so he used the subframe from my car to fix his with my permission - he even called and asked first though I wouldn't have cared at that point because I knew I wouldn't have the time or money to get it transported or repaired if I got it moved. Anyway, what's kind of neat is the 68 Camaro (Wild Blue) I own now was my brother's car. It still has the sub from my first car in it, so its pretty cool to me that I still have part of my first car.

1963 Ford Galaxie XL500 Convertible

Rangoon Red with White Bucket seat interior and a white convertible top.

Purchased new for my mother in August 1963. My mother drove me to kindergarten, grade school, middle school and the first year of High School in that car. in the fall of 1974 I turned 16 and this became my first car. I drove the car 3 years in high school and four years of college.

Now remember in 1974 this car was worth absolutely NOTHING since the car got a solid 7 MPG no matter how you drove the car. The ARAB oil embargo which started in 1973 had doubled the price of gas and old Muscle Cars were worth nothing to most people!

When I graduated college in 1981 I sold the car for $10,000! My how times changed in 7 short years. Why so much you ask? My Galaxie Convertible was a real R code 427/425HP 4 Speed XL500 Convertible with 80K miles on the clock and completely original.

The hard part to believe is that my Dad bought a 427/425 HP Galaxie 4 Speed convertible for my mother to drive as her daily car.

Way to go Dad!

Below is my REAL first Ride!

1953 Willys Jeep, flat head four cylinder and 5:38 gears, top speed about 45 mph.

Bought this when I was 14

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/07/1953WillysWagon-1.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/LSVLance/media/Car%20Pictures/1953WillysWagon.jpg.html)

It was a 1953 also, only someone had swapped in a flathead V8. I converted it to a 12 volt electrical system, painted it and sold both of these to buy this when I was 15 years old

I wanted my Dad's SWEET 1969 Cougar at the time

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/07/1969Cougar-1.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/LSVLance/media/Car%20Pictures/1969Cougar.jpg.html)

390, 4 speed... But he made me buy the anemic Dodge truck instead.

Probably a good thing as I would have destroyed that car...much like I tried to do with that truck.

At 17 I sold the truck and bought my first car, and the seed was sowed...

Not as cool as many but this is an exact replica of my first car as seen in California a few yrs back. 72 Impala Custom, mine had the exact same paint, the exact same vinyl roof and the exact same hubcaps removed. It was a car my Dad had kicking around, 350 2 bbl, about 1978. Slammed on the brakes in the rental car when I saw it, couldnt believe it.

My first was a 68 Chevy Bel Air 4 door that my dad was no longer driving and the first car I bought was a 78 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 350 Chevy in it. The Grand Prix was a fun car and I had wished I kept it but I needed something reliable and traded it in.

My very first car pictured my brother bought from our neighbor after he threw a rod on Route 66 North East of St. Louis. If I remember correctly he was driving home from Fort Sill in Kansas City. This was around 65-66 I was 13 years old. My brother paid $15.00 for it. From there I learned I love cars-took the engine apart, did some body work etc. never got it running but learned a lot. Here I am today another "gear-head" and still in love with Oldsmobiles.

1984 Hyundai Excel. The only option it had was an automatic transmission, literally the only option. It was a fun car because it had the oddest collection of quirk of any car i have ever owned. The radio (Am/FM w/o cassette player) had an old quartz read out but the back light was dead and the presets didn't work so you had to know what station you were on and then count if you wanted to change. The clock in the car had a problem that if the car was turned off for more than an hour or so it would lose the time, normally this would mean getting back in the car at noon every time but with this car it reset to 11:11 for some reason. The ignition cyl kept shorting out and I couldn't solve it so my parents mechanic helped me out with a budget friendly solution, it had a race car push button start.

Like any first car it was the source of many adventures. Got great mileage and in 1991 gas was still cheap so $5 was plenty to get me down the shore and around for a weekend. I also found out my senior year of highschool that properly arranged that little car could seat 13. Ok, seat is the wrong term but you get the idea and it was a pretty damn funny trip to the local pizza place.

The first car I ever Owned was a 69 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron. With Every ( I do mean every) available option. Original owner was the dealership owners wife so she got everything. Would be a rare car.

I had a gray 88' Corsica. 2.2 liters of pure power with a broken A/c. Sarcasm aside, Thankful for it, beat walking. Later on, The hood flew up and smashed the windshield. My Uncle Chuck hooked me up a teal green hood from the yard. Teal green and gray...Tight! That hood eventually flew up again and smashed the windshield. Friend and I flipped the hood jumped on it and re-installed. So, now it was a crinkly teal green hood on a gray Corsica. My Uncle Chuck, because he was awesome, hooked me up with 12" woofers and an amp...in my crinkled teal green hooded gray Corsica. Rest in Peace Chuck, you rock!

Yeah, things really changed when I sold the Camaro during my divorce. Was out of the car world for a while. Then I got back in but with 4x4 world. From there I got back into mid/late '60's Chevy trucks and got a Chevy II wagon. Back in the day no one was building PT trucks but getting back on the site, there is even its own forum for them. Wow times have changed!!! It has me thinking again.... :D

1982 Mustang GT. 347 stroker, TKO trans, 8.8 rear with 4.10 gears. Oh , and nitrous!

Silver with black interior, and TTops.

I worked my butt off for that car. Hit a deer at "the posted limit" and totalled it.

Green 71 Dart Swinger, Green vinyl roof over Green vinyl gut. Slant 6 aside from repairs the only mod was super six upgrade (2bbl carb). I still have the Rimblow steering wheel from that car some day it will go in the 340 car.

My first was a 1955 Chevy 2 dr. (210). 6 cyl with 3 on the tree. I was 14. Had been in my family since new. When it was my turn...... I put in a 327 with the 302 solid lifter cam, fender well headers, a 4 spd. A rear end out of 57 chevy (they are almost 2 inches narrower), 4:11 gears with welded spiders. Painted it blue with a white blanket. The wheels were Keystone Classics. Bucket seats out of 64 Chevelle and a 4 point cage. Had it ready when I turned 16 and got my license. Followed by loosing my license 6 months later. You can figure out why. Haven't had a ticket since then, (that was 1976). Sold the car at age 22 when I left for a career in the Corps.
