View Full Version : LS1 Brakes locking up at full pedal depress?

This is sort of a weird problem that just developed as I removed the master booster assembly to get my new clutch master in, the pedal at full depress (basically on the floor) will lock up the brakes completely and I have to turn off the car and pull the vacuum line off the booster for the 'whoosh' (air gasp by the booster) which unlocks the brakes.

What is this a sign of? Master failure or booster failure? Every part is from a LS1 Camaro aside from the prop valve.

Sounds like the master is not being allowed to return all the way to the top. If something changed when you reinstalled the master that limited the piston return travel, you will get lockup. Hope this helps.

I checked it over and played with the pedal brake rod (threaded on 68 Camaro) and when fulled depressed it holds tightly, but if I shut the car off it slowly returns to resting position. I tried yanked the pedal back and it just popped the rod out of the back of the booster. Is this a sign of a bad booster?

Maybe needs more bleeding?

Try loosening the master mount bolts once you have lock, to see if it corrects the issue. That should tell you if the master is working right or is the problem with the booster.

Loosened master bolts, pedal still did it, popped the booster off and drove it home on manual brakes. Thanks so much man!
