I have a 73' chevelle that i intend on putting a 3.5 inch cowl induction hood on, because of this i want to lower the front end so i can still see the black top. Would a 2 inch drop be too much?

IMO 2" would not be enough, 3 is ideal

Watch your available travel....lower via springs too far and you'll be using the bump stops as part of the suspension.
Look at the lower control arm. Draw an imaginary line through the centre of the control arm bushing and the pivot point of the lower ball joint.
You wouldn't want that line to less than parallel to the ground.

It's worth the time to do it right. My advice, measure the front bumper height as it sets now. Then jack the car up with the jack under the front bumper. Then remove the springs and shocks from the car. Lower the car to where you would like it to be. Measure your front bumper height and you will know what you need to do. This is the only way to know what you think will look right. A little work, but in the end, worth it.

I agree with LeighP. I did Hotchkis 2" drop springs on mine. Car bottoms out on occasion. And that is WITH the bumpstops trimmed a bit. A big ol' 455 pontiac with 2 heavy puffers will do that, though. Try the 2" drop spindles instead.
