Hey guys, I have a Vintage Air Gen IV for a 67 Camaro and as I was installing the unit today and I melted the black plastic case. The car doesn't have the interior it and I was using a halogen light to be able to see. The light got knocked over and was laying again the plastic case and melted a hole in it. Things around the house are falling apart lately. It's one thing after another. I think I have a curse on me. Does anyone know if Vintage Air can replace the black plastic case? I'm sure it will cost some $$$.

Thanks,

Its difficult to see, but doesnt look that bad. There are products you can use to patch the hole. I believe "kitty hair" will work fine.

Hey Tony, yeah the picture makes it hard to see. But there is a hole and the plastic was melted and is paper thin in this spot. Plus, this is in the most visible place were it can be seen from the passenger side. Not sure how to fix it without it looking like crap, but maybe there is a way.

Patch it with a little fiberglass and resin, then spray the whole thing with some no gloss truck bed liner "paint."

VintageAir can recase the unit if needed, there is a fee. Don't get brake fluid on Vintage Air boxes......

Given the location, a patch would be fine in that area. Make sure whatever you use is compatible with ABS plastic.

Pretty sure they are abs, which can either be heat welded or you can use the plumbing abs pipe solvent glue for a patch.

Can't really see anything that bad in pic either.

Get an led drop light.

they acutally make a paint that krinkles like a old school camera. Krylon makes it. https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

After you've patched the hole with whatever you choose, spray the box with this. It'll blend with the pattern, and you'll good to go.

Thanks guys for the response. I'm still kicking myself for doing this. I know better. I was in a hurry and now I'm going to pay for it. I was wondering if the repair doesn't come out good, if VA could replace the case? Does anyone on here know, work for VA or is a dealer?

Thanks Again for the Help Guys,

I feel for you I did same thing with a drop light but burnt my seat, ( answering phone) switched to LED after that. Good luck.

Thanks Joe, Learned my lesson and threw the dang light in the trash. I hate learning the hard way, plus I knew better. I definetely have a sick feeling in my stomach. I talked to a friend about it and he said in the big skeem of things it doesn't matter, but it's kind of hard to think that way right now.

Yes, yes they can. You have to send them the unit, make sure you plug all fittings on the ac and condensor. They will cut it apart, swap all your parts into a new case, test it and send it out better than new.

NAPA PLASTIC WELDER.
Hardens fine and you can even bond on a small patch if needed.
