Hey guys, I'm having an impossible time finding a factory GM rag joint for a second gen Camaro (1980 camaro z28) I've bought the ididit universal one....way too big with wrong hardware. I bought the Detroit speed one.... Came assembled and looks nice, but still way too big. I swear I've searched everywhere and can't find one. With the popularity of these cars you would think this would be an easy part to find. All I'm looking for is a bone stock factory rag joint. Does anyone know where I can get one???

I actually ordered one through them, it's the "universal" repair kit from ididit. Way too big with wrong hardware. These things are soo hard to find

I thought it was posted in PT but I must have overlooked it. http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=39632&page=5

Basically, I did not like the Ididit part at all, and the factory/DSE part would not mate since the spline on the new column was not the same as the factory part. So, I took parts of both and made a Frankenstein part that is far better.

Call Dave at Pro-touringf-body.com - (you'll have to google the website)
He'll probably be able to help you...pretty much knows it all for 2nd gen F-body suspensions / steering.

isn't that what the Dorman 31011 rag joint that is used to put later model (IROC, Monte SS, Jeep GC, etc) steering boxes in older GM cars actually fits?

I'm almost positive nobody makes a replacement for 79-81 cars, you will either have to do like Carl did and frankenstein it, replace the column and intermediate shaft to the earlier style, or use borgeson u-joints and double D shaft.

I had a Dorman HELP reapir kit on the 81 TA. It is basically just the rubber and it bolts up the the shaft and to the spline portion. I think 78 was the last year for the ones that are still available. My 79 Camaro I used Borgeson collpasible double D shaft and U joints. It is about 0.010 too loose on the column end but made a shim from a feeler gauge.

I saw on one site a guy was starting to repoping the entire internediate shaft(which has the rag joint riveted to it stock) them from Australia either nastyZ28.com or transamcountry.com forgot which.
