I am getting ready to order a 9" for my '69 Camaro. I am running the ride tech rear 4 link with coilovers and stock wheel tubs. I don't have wheels or brakes yet. I a, wanting to order the rear end 1" narrowed per side. Will this be ok, then I can install it, install brakes, measure en order wheels?
I am trying to achieve a deeper lip by narrowing the rear.

I was in the same boat as you a while back. I got mine narrowed for deep lip and it looks good in a stock wheelhouse. Wheel venders don't suggest you do it this way due to them wanting you to have the option on max (or best) Backspace and width. The idea being you are committed once the axle is shortened and therefore could be limited on your wheel sizing choice in both width and backspace. I hope that makes some kinda sense. I ordered my wheels last and although it worked for me it's not the best route to go. ( unibody, 45 Year old car with replacement 1/4's and well you get the idea. Wheel housings can Have different dimensions on opposite sides of the same car....Sizing is critical... Hope that helped. You won't regret the axle shortening either way. Only thing that was an issue is some rear brake hardware. Enjoy!

I am planning on ordering the axle bare, no leaf spring pads. I will weld all the tabs needed for the 4 link. Going with big wilwoods.
If I understand right let's just say a20x10 on a stock camaro used 5.5 backspace, if I narrow one in per side them it would use 4.5"
These are just example numbers and I know I will have to measure once axle and brakes are in place before ordering. Most wheel companies such as boyd, forgeline, etc who offer custom backspace and offsets should be able to make this work right?

Your example is spot on. Most wheel manufacturers will be able to hook you up on any size/BS you need.
