Rear Brakes 88-92 Fbody 1LE vs 93-97 Fbody

How do these stack up?

I had been thinking about the rear brakes swap, I had been also thinking about the Wilwood 12.19" rear conversion

I havent been able to find the backing plate/caliper bracket (part number 18019858) necessary for the 93-97 swap, but the 88-92 1LE brackets seem to be pretty plentiful

Any opinions, the calipers look pretty similar, not sure about rotor diameter though

How about some good news - all 88-97 F-Body cars use the same calipers. There was only a marginal difference in the rotors in the offset. I used both part numbers on my IROC but don't remember which ones fit better. The difference was something like 1/16" I used 93-97 mounting brackets on an 86 rear axle and they worked fine. The only real difference in the brakes for 88-92 1LE's was the front, (I'm assuming you already know this) which had bigger rotors and PBR calipers.

I wish you'd posted sooner. I just took a whole rear axle from a 94 Z28 to the scrap yard that still had the caliper mounting brackets (no abutments) still on it. I would've given them to you for the cost of shipping!

well that is good news, I guess that means I can use the 3rd gen brackets if I decide to go that way

Yah they're interchangeable. I've used both on my various 3rd gens over the years.
