hi guys, new to the forum from australia.
im about to embark on my 68 rs pt project.
i know this has been asked a thousand times, with so many front ends and rear ends out there, the choice is tough
im running a 540 with 746hp
i want a street car that handles, something at home on the track if i get the itch.
i love the look of the tci front end and i love the look of the heidts irs rear end.
can anyone offer an opinion on these 2 items.
yeah clearly the look is important to me too
also im going to run mini tubs, will that work with the heidts irs rear, is it narrow enough to get the mini tub benefits.
finally who makes a wheel thats reasonably priced, i dont mind tearing up $$$ on suspension but $5k on wheels when a $1500 set will do the same job without brand name bling.
thanks Dean

On the wheel part of your question, what are your priorities? Weight, cost, specific style ?
What sizes do you want to run?

The Weld Racing RT/S wheels are available in nearly unlimited sizes and are about half the price.

I personally have been very happy with the DSE subframe and 4 link rear suspension.

I agree with Steve on the Weld wheels. Another brand that is quality, sturdy & lower cost is American Racing. 18x11 is not common for them though. 18x9, 18x10 & 18x12. With Weld, you can order wheels in practically any width you want in 1/2" increments. Think $500-600 per wheel.

Check out our coilover kits for the 1st gens, the bolt in 4-link makes the install easy and it performs great! The quality of the Fox monotube shocks are an amazing addition to the kits, we have three different versions to choose from (fixed valving, single adjustable, and triple adjustable). We jig weld all of our arms and 4-links in house to ensure that the fitment is correct.
Here's a link to the complete kits we offer -

Hi Dean,
We've been building bolt-in front clips for the Camaro longer than anyone else around. Ours is a completely proprietary system that was engineered from a clean sheet so it doesn't have the limitations of something based on stock components. The boss's daughter has a '69 with a World 540 that she cruises so your big block would be completely at home. We can set you up with a right hand drive power rack too. There is a ton of technical information available HERE (https://www.cachassisworks.com/Attachments/DataSheets/7701_DS_WEB.pdf) and you can read up on individual components or download instruction sheets HERE (https://www.cachassisworks.com/cac_library_7701.html).
Out back, you will find that all the available IRS systems fall brutally short when it comes to handling the power put out by your big block. If you're looking at IRS systems for the look, then that's fine, but if you want something that will handle properly and keep your car hooked up, check out the gLink system (https://www.cachassisworks.com/c-458-camaro-67-69-gm-f-body.aspx). With a mini-tub you can fit a 315 under the '68.
Here's a couple pics of forum member Dirtshark's '67 (https://www.cachassisworks.com/cac_testimonials_ErvinCamaro.html). This car is running the gLink with VariShocks airsprings.

I agree with carl above the IRS will not handle the 746hp you will being throwing at it and if they say it will, then get the warranty for as long as possible, because you will break it racing and showing off(burn outs), if you want to change the sub frame, then go TCI, Chassisworks or Art Morrison, if you're keeping the subframe, go with a coil over set up like ridetech, that's a great System you're car will ride and handle great, if you keep the car with Coils and Leafs go Hotchkis, best engineered coil and leaf setups around, its really how far do you want to go and what are you going to do with the car

Hey Dean, since Super Pro in Australia is one of our newest dealers they may be able to help you with freight costs. We offer bolt on Torque Arm kits for 67-81 F-Bodies with 10 bolt & 12 bolt rears or even a kit that comes with a Ford 9" that has been jigged and bracketed to bolt in as well.

The guys who want a Ford 9" can order a kit that includes a bare Strange housing for $600 more. Take a look at the link below detailing an install that a PT.com member there completed with our Ford 9 in. kit in his 1973 Firebird:

Here is a video of a customer with a 67 Camaro who got 2nd place in Street Machine Class at '12 Kansas Good Guys. He was running air over shocks and had not adjusted the roll center via Watt’s Link….. he should be able to cut about 2 seconds off this time just by addressing these issues.

Here is a VERY informative tech article written by our R&D manager explaining what it does:

Here is a link to the recent Two Guys garage that gives you a visual look at what our Torque Arm Suspension does:
