so im talking with this guy about his 72 camaro. he said back when he bought it (i'm guessing he has been the only owner due to his age)it was too slow for what he was used to. In order to make more power he used to put nitro in his washer bottle and put the line into his air cleaner. said it never backfired and sounded wicked. He said the results were ok but far from anything to write home about.

Just a story i felt everyone needed to hear. Lets us keep perspective on how far we've come haha

I used to hang out in garages a lot when I was younger and a few of the old guys there used to tell me about a guy with a studebaker golden hawk that was supercharged. Apparently this guy was a figher pilot in the day, and that he used nitrous in the fighter engines, which led to him using nitrous in his car. He apparently used to just plumb in into the intake manifold and just "crack" the valve for a few seconds at a time when racing. SO I really dont doubt the crazy **** they did back then.

i knew a guy in high school that had a pull cable connected to his distributer so he could advance challenged his timing at full throttle and in top gear. He swore it got him an additional 30 mph on his top end.

Actually the pull cable he used was probably a timing RETARD. As we all know retard at higher rpm makes a car faster,, not more power, it just changes the power curve.
As for using nitrous, I know many people who have ran "rich" carbs and sneaky pete systems for about 50 hp bump. Also have seen people super richen the power valve circuit to make up for the nitrous.
As for washer fluid tank, many people have used water/alcohol injection or washer fluid, to help with detonation, using 87 octane fuel in match race, etc.
LOTS of little tricks many have used to push the "rules".
