My son was wondering why is brakes were acting up. Do you think this is the problem?

The piston melted right through the pad and right up to the rotor. :attn:

Not the worst I've seen, had a girlfriend years ago that said her brakes squeaked when she was braking. took them apart and there was no brake pad left at all. the only thing stopping the car was the brake caliper piston grinding on the rotor. needless to say it was an expensive fix.

one of my farm hands said the breaks started "grinding"
the pad came off the backing and one side of the rotor was gone.
the breaks had just been replaced, and napa would replace was the pads.
go figure, I don't blame them.

Looks like the caliper was stuck in the clamped position.... Lots of heat generated there.

This was at the end of a 1200 mile trip. It must have been glowing red.

When I was a teenager, I lived in Estes Park, Colorado. Estes Park is at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and it would get thousands or tourists from all over the country, most of who didn't know how to drive in the mountains. A good friend used to work at the local gas station and he would tell me stories of people pulling into the station and asking about a "funny" smell. Numerous times he would look at the front brakes and he would notice badly warped plastic hub caps. This of course was as a result of people riding their brakes as they descended from 12000 feet down to 7800...Good times.
