Can I puts 275/55/17 tire on a17x11 rim and mount them on a 1971 Camaro. I have 315/35/17 on them now, but want a little more sidewall when I am drag racing the car.

I don't see why not. The section width of that tire is right at 11 inches.

Mickey Thompson makes a 295/45-17 drag radial. That might be a better option.

Is a different set of wheels for the drags an option? Thats what I did. I had 17 X 9.5 W/275 40's up front and 17 X 11 W/315 35 rears. For drags a set of MT E/T streets with skinny fronts on old centerline 15" drag wheels. I ran them back to back at the strip one day and the difference was almost a half second quicker with the drag wheels/tires.
