I just installed a brand new pro form 100A 3 wire internal fan 10SI replacement alternator. The last alternator had an issue with the internal regulator (high voltage). Anyway, car started and ran ok, voltage is now ok. Parked it and changed the oil, mowed the lawn, and went to start it up- nothing. Dead battery. I have never had this issue before so I figured that it must be the alternator. I began charging the battery and hooked up an amp meter to it after it was partially charged. I found a 3 amp draw with everything hooked up. The amp draw went to 0 when I disconnected any of the 3 wires to the alternator. Nothing is shorted. It looks like a bad alternator- anyone have any experience with the pro form alternator? Could it be anything else??

Actually that is a CSI133D if its internal fan, I am assume its a GM. and make sure your alternator is supposed to work with your wiring, IE is it supposed to be wired into an idiot light or resistor. If you need a proper diagram let me know as some kits and aftermarket setups are wired wrong and might not shut off.
Generally the key on wire needs to be ran through a keyed 12 source with small (194 bulb works much like dash lights) to properly turn on and off and indicate an issue.

Its a proform 66438 alternator. It has 4 terminals plus the bat terminal. Only 2 of those 4 are used with the included wire harness adapter. It is supposed to be a drop in replacement for a 10SI alternator, but instructions were pretty much non existent. Otherwise, it looks to be a great unit. Small size, nice internal fans, bearings are smooth, pulley appears to be billet. I will try and get a hold of proform tomorrow. I noticed with it hooked up and the car off that there is noticable resistance to turn when I turn it by hand. The amperage draw and resistance to turn disappear when I install my old 10SI.

again if its not properly switched it will stay on. UNLESS its not turning off. Ask them what GM version (ie car model its most likely comes from) then we can wire it up appropriately. IF its improperly wired the regulator may not be turning off. Ill look up general GM CSI133D diagram and try to repost .

For future reference i would suggest possibly trying to find a parts store that sells GM units new-they have much better quality internals than any aftermarket units...., including a faster window dwell time at the regulator which adjusts any loss in voltage much quicker than aftermarket suppliers.
