In the process of stripping my '66 Mustang and wanted to know the best technique for removing the original undercoating that you find in the fender wells.

What type of undercoating is it? There are several types. My 68 camaro had a waxy undercoat that was easies to remove with heat and a scraper. I intend to media blast the remnants once on he rotisserie.

Heat from a plumbers torch and a scraper has worked best on my Falcon and Fairlane. Or a heat gun.

I am not sure what type it is but I will try some heat and a scraper to see if that works. If there are any other ideas keep them coming.

Thanks all!

On the 66 mustang in my shop right now we used a heat gun and paint scraper initially. Then black biscuit wheels to clean it up.

Nothing beats an Air Needle Scaler for powering off scale, rust and undercoating/seam seal.

Thanks Draginutz for the reply. I just looked up how the air needle scaler works and it looks to be a great way to remove the undercoating. If anyone has not seen how they work watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xha4xY-dMrQ
