There may be a thread already on this, but I am thinking of going with a GM LS376 crate engine in my 82 K5 Jimmy 2wd. I am eventually wanting to 6 speed it, but not sure if I am ready to tackle it yet? The truck currently has a new 700r4 in it with a lock up converter and works great. I have a 12 bolt with 4:11 posi that is going in it also.

Do the LS motors bolt up to the older transmission or do I have to swap in the newer style tranny at the same time? This is going to be my first go at this, so I will be asking a lot of questions and researching alot as I go on.

The difference between the LS bolt pattern and the standard small block is a single extra bolt. With the right flex plate the 700r4 should work fine.

thanks, I will do some research on the flex plates and see what I can find.

You will just need a flexplate with dual pattern bolt holes, and the flexplate spacer. Almost any vendor sells conversion sets, or check the classifieds at www.ls1tech.com. Also, you didn't mention if you were planning to run EFI or a carburetor, so if EFI, make sure you're using a drive-by-cable(DBC) throttle body, so you will have a way to install the TV cable.

I have a 700R4 behind my LS1.

as others have said, the 700r4 is a popular option behind the LS engines for those that either like the TV cable and non-controller style of the 700r4, or for those that don't want the computer controls of the 4L60e.

thanks for all the feedback. It is gonna be my first LS swap, so I am doing as much homework as I can, before tearing into it.
I plan on going with EFI also.
