so im finally setting up my car for drag racing. im putting a fuel cell, fuel pump and my battery in the trunk. im gonna do a emergency cutoff switch on the positive side of the battery. i see a lot of the swith type that flip right to left (counter clockwise) to turn off, are these ones even nhra legal? i believe the book says you need the push/pull type with push turn off. id like to use the flip style and not the push/pull if i can get away with it what do you guys think? here is my car>

The rotary switch is pretty standard. The "push/pull" comes from mounting it inside the car with a rod routed outside that "pulls" to close the switch and "pushes" to open it. Any of the switches you see at Summit or Jegs should work.
Here is a nice, NHRA rated switch, from Speedway:

Here is a pic of a "push/pull" kit off Chassis works site.

i have the Moroso on my car, when i drag raced i never got a second look with it, but i did install it inside the trunk and ran a push/pull rod to it, a friend of mine ran the same switch and he had the knod outside through the bumper, with the stick on label in your pic, on the bumper. he was never questioned on it.

The Moroso one is legal, just wire it according to their instructions. Seen many of those switches on drag cars and everyone pass tech. For any other ruling bodies (other than NHRA), check with them to see what is legal.

For NHRA it needs to shut the car engoine off so you usually have to get a double pole to shut off the alternator connection also.

Make sure the switch lever is metal. Plastic ones will get dinged now.

If one has a fuel injected car would it be okay just to cut off the fuel pump voltage? That would kill the motor instantly.

Dont get the Moroso, they are a weak link in the charging system of a street car. They are only rated for like 30 amps. Get a good one rated for at least your alternator output. I'm using a Flaming River 250A.

yeah, don't skimp. get a good one.

You can put it behind your license plate, just be sure to put your bat sticker near it. Visible with the license plate up.
