From what I've read the load master underestimated the amount of straps required to hold some heavy equipment. During wartime their takeoffs are pretty hot and steep to cut down on the period when they're vulnerable to ground based attack. Due to the angle, the straps broke sending all that weight to the tail. Once that happened it became impossible to pull the nose down and they stalled.

It's a shame that lives were lost for the sake of a few straps.
My son hauls flatbed and always puts on extra straps or chains. You just never know when you will need them.

Yeah, watched that.....figured the load had shifted....I've never seen a 747 stalled before.
For anyone in the aviation world, you knew exactly what was going to happen from the first sight of the aircraft in that extreme nose up attitude. No recovering from that at that altitude AGL. I was thinking it was probably the pallet lock system not engaged....you rotate, and all the load heads aft and you have no way to get the nose down.

It was National a Freight company out of Michigan. I just heard about it this week, but the Dash cam date showed February.

Every piece of freight that I have ever seen has been strapped down to aluminum pallets. I agree someone didn't do their job correctly, but he probably died with the rest of the crew as most Airlines and Freight company's send there own Load masters with the aircraft when they are doing MAC airlifts.

Kalitta air had a 747 crash in South America a few years back. They lost 2 or 3 engines on take-off. I think all the crew survived, some with career ending injuries.

yea that was pretty scary my youngest son saw it happen, in the past few months alone there's been about 6 crashes he said.

Sad thing BTW it has not been determined yet what happened, most think a aft shifting CG caused by the load moving. We had the exact scenario in recurrent training last year. RIP Guys
