Is there any interest in renting a wheel fitment tool like this?

At almost $400 this tool is one of those specialty tools you might only use once. So, it's tough to stomach.

On the other hand, not getting it right the first time means cut tires, tires sticking out too far, or being recessed too far in, and/or rubbing. Considering the cost of tires, and the cost of having the wheel rehooped maybe $400 isn't so bad. I would love to have had this tool, it seems much more accurate than that plastic one with the wire.

I was thinking if I could rent this tool out ($30+shipping), it would be a damn sight cheaper for people, and no question about it, you'd much rather have this tool and know for sure your offset is right (you do need to have the tire your fitting on hand first).

I would rent one. I have contacted the wheel manufacturer I am interested in using a few times and they don't usually do classics. That along with the fact that buy the end of a mini-tub and a new rear-end, there are just too many variables to mess this up. I know you can rent the Eastwood fender rollers on ebay. I would offer a similar price structure as that. I would think there are enough folks here and lat-g to make it happen.

That's what I'm thinking. I know YearOne sells the pro45, and I'm figuring that is what most people will want to use. I'm going to call WheelWorks later today, and make sure I understand what the pro45 actually fits.

I would've rented if I already hadn't put my faith in Rushforth and just placed my order today I'm gonna trust his knowledge but if I do it again I'd happily rent it

I need to flag this thread. I am going to have so many changes that I would be a fool not to rent it.

I was looking to rent one of these back a while as well. I actually considered doing exactly like you did, i.e. buy it then rent it out. I think there is a market for sure. I'd suggest "selling it" to the renter though with the expectation that it would be "returned". Too valuable of a tool to not do that or just have a hefty deposit.

I am in on this. Whenever it is available, let me know. I need it ASAP to measure for my rears.

Good, glad to here there are people who see value in this. Getting the tire bead in to the clamps requires some muscle, but it gave me an accurate assessment of what offsets will fit, and what won't.

I would be interested in renting it too, if I can't find one locally. I looked at the Percy's one and it's pretty weak.

Here's how I get the backspace with the tool. Measuring for a 17"x9.5" wheel (10.5" overall width), 6.25" backspace

^what spork said. I bought the Percy's a while back, and while it's better than winging it, I don't think it's adequate - especially since it flexes much too easily to get an accurate reading.

Edit: doesn't the tool have BS marks? Seems you shouldn't need to go to that trouble to check BS, as it should be marked.

You are correct it does, but i like to double check. You could just get the reading where the hub mate lines up with the marks on the clamp, the instructions state as much. The nice thing about this tool, unlike that plastic thing with the wire, is that you can put the actual tire on this tool.

There's quite a difference between a nitto 315, and goodyear gs-d3 315, and it's hard to visualize that difference with a wire. An 1/8" or 1/4" could be the difference between perfect, and a cut tire.

I would have rented this but instead of buying I made my own. Kind of cool project to do but I had to spend a lot of time measuring before I was certain things wee spot on.

I didn't know people made metal ones.

I bought the Percy's one and it's alright but it's flimsy and didn't really go all that wide.

Gotta love Ebay, assuming renter pays the return shipping? And how long would you allow people to use it for? Couple days or a week then send it back?

I really have to get going on the front end of the mustang so I can use this tool!

When I get to the phase of wheel fitment, I will definitely be interested in renting the tool. I mean if 15 people rent it off you it has more than paid for itself and you saved 15 people around 350 bucks; it's a win/win for everyone.

I'm in.
Bought a Percy's: not much tool for the money and as others have said, there's a lot at stake in choosing wheels and tires.
Anybody have suggestions for really high offset 5 x 5 x 18" wheels?

I as well thought about doing this as I now am the owner of one of these tools, i thought about renting it out on a local level for $40 with a hefty deposit. how has it been going lees02ws6? seems like you've had a lot of luck!

^^ it's worth buying and then re-selling it yourself. So many people are selling them cheap and some dealers are giving them away with wheel purchases

There is none on ebay.

Was looking at this one.
