View Full Version : Keep it civil.

Hey guys,

The attitude on the board as of late has started to get out of hand. For the most part, everyone acts extremely civil, and participates in a helpful, and positive manner, and I thank you for that. However, there are those who keep "stirring the pot" so to speak. It will no longer be tolerated. Two members just received 1 week bans, and if and when they return, they act in the same manner, they will be banned permanently. This goes for anyone else whom is causing trouble on the forums. It will not be tolerated any longer. You will be banned. I did not want to have to ban anyone, but it seems there is just no other way to keep the board positive and helpful.

There are some people who have a strange sense of humor, seem they are opinionated or just don't type what they mean and its taken out of context.
Then there are others who are very sensitive to this and then all hell breaks loose. Alot of times its easily avoidable if one would just think before one types.
Most of these little problems or disagreements can be hashed out by a simple pm or email. An example, I made a comment that was viewed as a negative statement about one of our members. It was handled via email and it was a huge misunderstanding and everything was explained with no problems.

We are all adults here and we can get over this. Oh and if we are talking about that Yody character...I say we frickin burn him! LOL j/k he's really not a bad guy.

Ralph LoGrasso

I realize Yody is not a bad guy, and I agree. I talked with him at SEMA and he seemed like a good guy. However, there comes a point when things just get too out of hand. There have been several complaints by a lot of different people about a couple of members who keep stirring the pot. I realize it's humorous, and what not, and it doesn't bother me, however some people don't see it that way, and the ban thing has been coming for a long time. It's just something to clean up the board, and keep things running smoothly.

It's all in the tone inflection. Happened to me before.

And now a word from Dave Mason......

Been away, haven't seen you in a while.
How've you been?
Have you changed your style and do you think
That we've grown up differently? Don't seem the same
Seems you've lost your feel for me
So let's leave it alone, 'cause we can't see eye to eye.
There ain't no good guys, there ain't no bad guys.
There's only you and me and we just disagree.
Ooo - ooo - ooohoo oh - oh - o-whoa
I'm going back to a place that's far away. How bout you?
Have you got a place to stay? Why should I care?
When I'm just trying to get along We were friends
But now it's the end of our love song...
So let's leave it alone, 'cause we can't see eye to eye.
There ain't no good guys, there ain't no bad guys.
There's only you and me and we just disagree.
Ooo - ooo - ooohoo oh - oh - o-whoa

I find it helpful to read my posts out loud before I submit them. If it sounds bad out in the air, I will probably be even worse when taken out of context on the internet.

Another helpful hint is not to "say" anything in here that you wouldn't say to the person in person..

Despite the recent 'banter', this board is super-tame. There are some serious idiots out there with internet access, and a bone to pick (oh yeah- and not enough balls to take care of things in person). I'm just happy they're not here!

In the last 5-6 years this place has grown very big....and I have noticed a change in attitude too.. I hope the new rules wil make it a bit more like it used to be inhere.

Good job Mods/Admins!

Hi, this is pretty much the only forum I visit. I'm young and I ask a lot of dumb/basic questions. Reading through topics and what not I've never ran into anything offensive and/or seemingly rude. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe people are too sensitive on the forum. It just seems to me like everyone is hyper-sensitive on the internet everywhere. It's only an internet forum.

But I've got no objection to banning people, it's kind of like a club here. If someone disrespects it, then kick them out. They must've done something really bad.

This is still one of my favorite sites by the way. I hope you guys get the "Cars" section going again. Except with bigger pictures and more info, that'd be rad.

i made a comment here about 2 weeks ago , i didn't mean it in a bad way ,it was taken in a bad way. steve ,i think figured out what i was trying to say ( others didn't) . typing on a computer dont show body language , which is easier to read than a computer . i agree with your comment about saying it face to face .

;) Is a wink smiley.

Smileys really help a lot to show emotion. If you are just making fun of someone and joking about it put a smiley at the end or the poke face smiley. Smileys tell all. If you dont show smileys then members dont know if you are serious or joking.
Ralph,
I am very glad to hear the bann was for only 1 week. I hope you let those members know it was for only 1 week. They might be under the impression they are banned forever and that would really be disappointing to loose members unless it just kept up over and over again.
I honestly think that was the best way to handle the situation. Mabey a warning next time before the 1 week bann could be something to try.
When all else fails "If you dont have anything nice to say, just dont say it" :secret: :icon996:

I personally think this was a good move. This is one of the reasons I stay over at Lateral-G now. That attitude is all adult and not one of I'm better/know more than you type. This site is one of the best and has a wealth of info for us novices and hope it stays that way. Most of us are on here to learn.

Serious?

It's a wink.. meant to convey that you are just teasing and not being a ****.. :)

Yes, all we have here is the written word, what sounded good to you when thought up in you mind might read a completely different way to someone just reading the raw words.

That is why Smilies, while sorta lame, do help give the impression of emotion..

Is this where we all hug?

LS2.com and LS1tech.com are HUGE boards and in comparrison this place is so well behaved it is scary..

Besides banning they have fun tricks like ghosting (the person is invisible to everyone for a period of time).. stunning.. a sort of temp ban.. and my favorite bluring.. everything the person types for a while is so blurry it can't be read.. lol..

Usually it is a warning.. a short ban.. a long ban then bye bye for good.. everyone makes mistakes but jerks make them over and over and over..

i have to agree that this board is pretty tame and well behaved. i hang out at stangnet a lot and also corner carvers a lot.

stangent is basically pretty tame for the most part but there are times when we all crawl up each others a$$ over there but we usually get things starightened out pretty quick.

CC on the other hand is a downright slam fest a lot of times. those guys over there are very opinionated and can get really mean and offensive especially to newbies.

i try not to post too much over there or even ask very many questions for fear that i may have to make a long drive to somewhere and throw down a hurtin on someone. i'm one of those people that can take anything to a certain point but after that there's no controlling my temper. i guess it's the irish blood in me.

the thing I use to "defuse" an inflamitory post or one that could be considered to be is to use slashes at the bottom.

/like this.

it makes all the difference. Example:

The mule has a run of the mill cheapo radiator cap.

/sarcasam.
//its a nice radiator cap
///best part of hot august nights was getting my pic taken with it.

If i had just left that first sentance alone, without the follow up, it would have been taken out of context and someone may have been offended. but now its clear that i was being sarcastic, and possibly a "inside joke" between me and charley.

Hey I have been lurking at this site for quite awhile and felt compelled to post finally. I haven't seen this lateral site yet, but out of every forum that i have visited this one is the most strict, but definetly has some really good info, although it seems a lot of people just post to brag about their latest cool part, however everyone likes seeing eye candy and car porn!! What causes someone to be banned? One thing I have seen on some of the various forums is people kinda get into the "who's who" groups just like high school! SOmetimes on the sites people with all the money or the coolest high budget projects tend to make up groups and exclude everyone else. If you say anything wrong to them presto! your zapped! Just like rich people who want the power also(wouldnt' it be nice?!). Anyway I havne't seen much of that on this forum and hope to contribute in a positive way. However I have seen much worse like stated before at canyon carvers and such, a lot of other forums also allow profanity and all kinds of such. Hopefully what i said is "civil" and doesnt' affend anyones feelings and isn't too politically uncorrect. Thanks for giving me a chance to join this great forum!

Cantstopit, welcome to the site.

You're not seeing the dialogs that caused people to be (temporarily) banned because they've been removed.

It wasn't a matter of just vaguely offending the wrong people; it was a series of attacks on other members - and it wasn't just one occasion, either.

cantstopit
08-19-2005, 11:40 AM
oh, sounds pretty viscious, thats pretty bad if people are "attacking" each other. There is a guy on all the drag racing boards that has been banned from like every one, named ED bigley, he is a big time controversy, you want to seem some real attacks he is your man! Well I should probably just stick to the tech section, thats usually the easiest way to stay out of trouble. Thanks for the welcome! Just need to figure out how to fill out my profile and such

Just need to figure out how to fill out my profile and such

That'd be under "User CP" (control panel) in the far left of the maroon bar up top.

And dont be scared, or walk on eggshells here. We are very fair here, it takes FAR more than an accidental hurting of someones feelings to get banned.

Ed is a piece of work. I all but begged him for a race with his baddest Chevelle on the planet with a 468 to run my little pee wee pump gas 400 But since my battery is in the trunk, it is not a fair race! Thing is, Ed's car is cool, very cool, it is his attitude and presentation that sucks.

Frank, thats precisely why I despise Robbie Gordon. I realize hes a talented driver and has the potential to actually be a top-level NASCAR star, but hes such a whiner/sh*t-head and has such a bad attitude (none of those wrecks were MY fault) that noone likes being near him on the track, much less hiring him. Moral to this story...an a**hole in a fast car is STILL an a**hole! :hammer:

Ed is the worst troll on the internet period. Ralph would have his hands full with that guy!! He has one fast chevelle, everyone will agree with that, its just his way or no way, trust me I have gotten my fair share of hatemails from that guy! Well this site seems pretty cool, its just that I have never seen in my internet experience a place so worried about manners etc... I guess its like a big family here? Comments listed were a good read. I'm a Joker myself. However, always in a fun and good way.

What ever happen to Pearl Cyclone. I read all has past postings after that last episode of his car being in PHR. That guy was warned many times on various occasions about extensive listings of his car. Big ego would be putting it mildly. Did he get banned? I don't believe anything happen. Correct? He is the only one who ever got me riled up.

Similes make since too. :usa:

I heard a rumour that during one of the weekends in glamis robbie gordon hit a guy with his truck and killed him. I heard it it from a pretty reliable source, but thats all i know. He was taken in but never charged.

so its "alleged" to have happened

I thought the pearl cyclone got beat up pretty bad but he did ask for it. He was almost as subtle as the guy asking about the camaro bodies.

I think one thing we should consider is that presumably, those who have been banned temporarily will be returning to our little corner of the internet. Imagine how you guys would feel coming back, and reading all of this in your new posts.

It seems to me that this is something that we shouldn't be discussing at length, or at all, after all, don't we owe some courtesy to those we will be welcoming back?

James, that's a good point and one all should consider. Just because folks can't log in or post doesn't mean they're not reading RIGHT NOW, much less when they do come back.

Have some respect. It's a temporary ban, not an expulsion. They're still pro-touring.com members and should be treated as such.

Edit: Bill's right.
