i'm getting ready to purchase a sway bar for my 74 Olds, i need some insight as to what size to get, currently it has the stock 15/16 bar on it and nothing on the rear. heres a quick run down of the what the car has for specs, 3800 lbs, 600lbs springs in front, rear 124-159lbs, hotchkis tuned bilstein shocks, 235 60 15 tires up front , 275 60 15 on the rear, rear susension is all heim joint. the car has a aluminum headed big block with motor plate and 6 pt cage, so its already pretty stiff. if any other info is needed let me know, i'm mainly looking for what sizes to run and hollow or soilds. thanks in advance.

I would get a splined bar so that you can make adjustments to your driving style. Here is a picture of what I just finished.

I have a 1.25 OD splined bar with a .188" wall thickness.

i thought about a splined bar but i'm not going to be racing all that much so i want to keep it simple and use a standard bar, i just don't know if i should use hollow or solid and what size.

I wouldn't get carried away with bar sizes. It sounds like the car (Cutlass?) is fairly stock other then shocks and some mounting hardware. I would talk to Hotchkiss or Hellwig and see what they recommend. Just adding a rear bar, of any size, is going to make a huge difference so I would lean toward a stock size.
The difference between hollow and solid will not be noticable from the drivers seat if the bars are sized correctly. Hollow bars tend to be a bit bigger in diameter to match the performance of a solid. What is lost in packaging space is made up for in weight savings...
