need some help determining if a cam will work in my motor. it is a 5.3 LH8 motor. i originally ordered cam no. 54-458-11, but it is a 3 bolt cam and i need a single bolt cam. i found cam 146-458-11 with the specs being just about the same and it is a single bolt which is what i need. only thing is it shows that it is for a 6.2 LS3. will this cam work in my 5.3? i don't know the differences between the different ls motors to know if this will work or not. i already changed the springs for the new cam, now i just need to make sure this other cam will work. please help so i can get the cam ordered and motor put back together. i already asked on comp cams, but last time it took them 2 weeks to respond. it wouldn't be too big of a deal if it didn't take 2 weeks for stuff to get overseas, not to mention there are not too many LS gurus here in Germany, and i'm sure not going to AAFES!! thanks for any help.

JJ, that cam should work just fine. The biggest thing is making sure you have the right length pushrods. The pushrod length is determined by the cam's base circle, along with head, and head gasket thickness.

Another option for help is at www.ls1tech.com

If the first cam is what you want, buy a 3 bolt timing chain sprocket. Pretty cheap fix.

thanks Stephen. it's nice to have cool members on this board to help you see something that was so simple, and right there all along. I didn't even think about that. That would definately be the easiest route. Thanks.

if you have the 58x crank reluctor to run the 3 bolt cam you use timing set from 2005 Z06 Ls7 only that year. and if its the 24x crank use 05 ls2 6.0. pretty sure, that one is 58x not positive tho
