Hey guys, long time lurker, first-time poster. Up until recently, we raced in the Truck division at Delaware Speedway.
http://www.delawarespeedway.com for anyone interested in perusing the rules, but the gist of it is, 350hp 602 crate motor (or in my case, the built equivalent), stock rear leaf spring suspension, stock double wishbone up front, all stock mounting points except in terms of lowering (shackles, etc)... Basically a Street Stock version of a truck.
Long story short, decided I don't want to race there anymore, partially due to politics (other oval racers will know what I mean), and also because racing Friday nights is practically impossible for us right now. So we decided we'd try converting the truck to a road course setup.
It would certainly be unique; there's plenty of stockcars converted to road course/autocross/whatever use, but they're usually tube frame late models or Cup cars, not something factory-based. Setting it up like this will give us multiple options for places to race, be they hill climbs, open road races, autocross, etc etc...
Our goal for this season is to run an event in the Ontario Time Attack series, which is a road course event. If we end up enjoying it, we'll plan a more ambitious season next year. For this season, our only plans on the chassis is to reset it from staggered to standard--make the front springs the same size, rearrange the geometry to turn left AND right, remove all the left side ballast weight, etc... And just see how it goes.
My question for the Pro-Tourers in in regards to future plans; are there any options out there in the aftermarket for me? In terms of brakes and chassis. By all means I'm all about junkyard options, as I don't have $4000 to sink into a Baer big brake kit or a Belltech lowering system.
Currently, it has stock 1/2 ton spindles, 3/4 ton upper control arms (the tubular ones), adjustable spring pockets with 950 lb/in coils, 1 1/4" swaybar, frame is clearanced for the lower control arms... And stock brakes. I'll be running the Hawk truck pads (because they don't make a real racing pad for these things!) but otherwise I'm pretty much stock up there, other than doing what I can with the alignment.
My concern, I guess, is for better brakes, and improved geometry up front in terms of spindles. Does anyone know of any junkyard swaps, partiuclarly with the spindles, that might work to give me bigger brakes or better geometry? I'd still like to fit the brakes within 15" wheels, but I know that, for example, 9c1 12" rotors and calipers fit inside a 15" wheel...
Also hoping to get a rear disc swap done next year too. I see some reasonably affordable kits for that, but would still prefer a junkyard option.
Thanks!
