the horn relay is buzzing and i don't know what is causing it. I replaced it last week after I had a friend attempt to install some gauges in my 68 camaro as I was working on other things trying to get car ready for good-guys del mar show. he attempted to hook-up a temp gauge and volt gauge and I don't know how ,but in the process he smoked my horn relay and a few fuseable links going to the horn relay (there is only one fuseable link going to relay but thru process of elimination of removing one item (volt gauge first time and temp gauge second time) at a time and replacing "F/L" each time to find out what was wrong) so at the moment i don't have gauges installed but horn relay buzzes when i hook-up battery cable ... does anyone have any ideas on what i can do or check to fix this issue thanks in advance
my ride is a 68 chevy camaro i did a 3 wire alternator conversion with internal regulator but i didn't have any issues until after my buddy tried to install gauges ... what would cause relay to buzz?

That is the key in the ignition warning. Sounds like a messed up ignition switch if its doing it all the time.

If you smoked some wires , you may have burned the insulation off a wire and you are grounding the circuit for the relay, causing it to buzz.

so far the only wires that look like they were smoked were the fuseable link ,but i will double check any and all wires that are in that general area for any type of damage to them. thanks jefftate for pointing that out i will look more closely at them

gearheads78, I'm getting that loud buzzing noise...sounds like what you explained. I have a '72 Cutlass S w/455. I'm not the best mechanic, so wanted to know the best way to solve the problem. If it is with the ignition. Thanks for any help you or anyone else can provide. ~Chris

There were horn relays that buzz to indicate the key has been left in the ignition. Our 68 Camaro had one.
