Let me first say I have been lurking on here a long time, didn't know if I wanted to join. All the comments on other threads are so positive I figured the members could help me keep motivated and maybe come up with a name for this project. A few months ago I sold my truck and picked up a new daily driver from my neighbor. Wanted a car with no smog (California) seats 6, and gets decent gas mileage I have had this car since September of last year and have been working on it with limited funds and time. My goals for this car is nice driver that doesn't handle like a truck. So the plans ford 8.8 rearend with 4.10 gearing, subframe connectors, fuel cell, battery box, hemi hood scoop, fiberglass bumpers, door handles shaved, shaved drip rails, all emblems shaved, tinted windows, 17" rims, hemi orange paint, and addco front and rear sway bars for starters. As with all projects it will never be finished but with my mustang project not done I expect to be done with this by the end of the year. Enough typing on with the pics.

First on the list body work fix the surface rust, align hood, and tint up the windows. Did this within the first month of owning the car.

Third month its now christmas time. Added hubcaps also, Pulled off the driver side fender and replaced it, also shown in this pic is the jewel of this car the engine were most people would replace a slant 6 the previous owner threw tons of money at it, 390 holley 4 barrel, hooker headers, big cam very lopey, moroso filter, with race mufflers dumped at the axle. Bought the car with 1500 miles on fresh motor and transmission.

Forth month it's now January, alot of heat in the car with the headers and no carpet so cleaned up the floor and coated it used some cheap heat ducting wrap for home use, layed it under my carpet also started painting the interior installed the horn button also.

A little later in the month my gauges came in so installed those. Only went with white face because the previous owner put white face sunpro gauges under the dash.

Fifth month tragedy happens 904 automatic transmission blows up no reverse, no park, every gear is a drive gear, I hate autos so out with the auto in with the stick, My neighbor has a duster with a slant 6 in it that was a stick that he converted to auto, three speed on the column, not my first choice but basically free. Traded a few things for it, started putting in the trans, no way was it going to be column shift, so time to call in my pops to convert to floor shift, he made a bracket that mounted to the trans as there was none, also did all the cutting on the floor. This took us two months as he lives in San DIEGO. But by the middle of March everything is done and running again.

Ok all done with the conversion so back to the fun stuff. My wife for Christmas bought me a fiberglass front bumper, and with our tax money bought headlights and a new windshield. I love my wife. Installed all those parts also my mopar windshield banner, and etched look headlight stickers this brings us up to date and were i am so far.

Need pics of the wheels on the car. You picked the right way to work on the car. It might not be by choice (money) but atleast you are enjoying it. Keep on posting your progress.

Low buck projects keep the hot rodding world turning. This car is going to look totally sinister when you get it together. Keep it up!

Grimmey71 I'm going to go supercharged, I'm already building a single turbo mustang. I want this car to be a light to light car the plan down the road when the supercharger is installed is to put in a 5spd and the ford 8.8 with 4.10 gears. I plan on this car at least running 12's when all finished but who knows might be faster.

Ben I'm hoping on a sinister look. It gets lots of compliments right now. So i can only imagine the compliments it will get when its done. It's very low buck as I only have 3500 in it including buying the car.

The car looks great btw. I sold my valiant 2 years ago as I had too many projects going on at once. I wanted to do a green brick style http://www.moparaction.com/tech/archive/one-lap-pix.html
turbo slant but looks like your well on your way there. Keep up the work. If I could redo my Cuda project I would go the same way you are, piece by piece while keeping it driving

Looks like you added coil-overs to your leaf springs. Any reason for this? Just a word of caution; by doing this you stiffen up the rear and it makes the car tend more towards oversteer if you don't compensate by stiffening the front as well. Depending on the rates, this could cause the car to be pretty unstable.

Turbofoxbody

Sickmonte, yes I added coilovers but there not traditional coilovers the perch is at the bottom of the shock and has one in the middle, the car doesn't ride on the coil till loaded(ie, three people in the back), It's a family car and I sometimes ride around with all six of us so these help.

I love darts.
Owned the Aussie version for a while (Valiant VG Coupe)
Nice lines and have heaps of potential.
And they look tough on a good set of wheels.

Keep the pics coming. :-)

Well the darts broken down again, but I look at it this way time for more upgrades, the engine has a 3/4 came and looks like the engine builder was on a drinking day and didn't put loctite on the came bolt, so the upgrade is a Pete Jackson noisy gear drive for a big block Chevy amazing that it fits under the cover and both gears fit the only mod is you have to make a. 280 spacer so on with the pic.

Turbofoxbody
08-17-2013, 06:09 PM
Also on the mod list is a center console with shift light and a Bluetooth system being put in.will also be installing my wheels and dual 10" electric fans a pic of the center console.

Ausmarty, yeah me too this is my second one I used to own a 71 Plymouth valiant with a slant 6 all stock daily driver that I put 200,000 miles on when I was in the Marines. But I sure would love to live in Australia bad hot rods down there.

PROGRESS TIME!

lol.

Nah Australia is f***ing horrible.
We can build em.
Can't play with 'em.
:(

My next VG/VF/Dart will probably have our infamous 265 Slant Six Hemi.
350hp from 265 cubes.
Triple SU carbs.

Gonna throw 10 grand at the guys here who build them fresh and get 400+ out of a newly built one. They are a 5K motor out of the box making 350 at the fly, another 50HP shouldn't be tooooo hard for 5 more K.
haha.
Of course it will make a bit more than that, but I will keep it around 400.
It's going to be a manual again - I already have a 6 speed Getrag out of a Nissan R34 GTR.

Just need a better paying job to continue saving for the car itself.
