Does anyone know what clamps to use to mount the swaybar with facotory 1LE bushings to the G body cars? Someone said 94-96 Impala SS parts. But I can't verify that they are big enough.
Thanks,
Scot

I'm using Energy Suspension 1 3/8". Be prepared to tap out the 10mm holes for a 7/16" bolt. the 36mm bars tend to strip the threads even during instalation. Also be warned that the bars are either narrower or the thickness alone makes them rub on the frame a bit. Maybe it's just mine though.

1LE cars were not equiped with a 36mm front bar. they had at most a 35mm hollow bar that is actually pretty weak. yes it will be better than any other stock bar thats smaller than 35 mm, but there are aftermarket bars out there that will work better. a suspension techniques 35mm solid bar is about $150 and it will work better than that 1le bar. if you want to stay hollow for weight reasons yet be thick walled so it actually works well then you need to call these people www.stranoparts.com. they have a 36mm hollow bar thats thick walled and made to their specs. it runs about $250 though if i remember right. just letting you know your options.

Whatever it came from, there were 36mm hollow bars made. I got two from '86 TAs. I've heard of 34mm hollow bars also, but I believe the only hollow bar on 3rd gen F bodies was actually the 36mms. They never made a 35mm third gen bar, but there certainly were some discrepencies in the bars' thicknesses.

If we're going aftermarket, Spohn makes bars for G bodies that they don't list on there sight. 1 5/16" solid chromoly front and 1 1/8" solid chromoly rears. SC&C should have an adjustable rear sway bar set up that mounts like a third gen bar (much more effective design) out relatively soon. You can't beat the hollow 36mm for $4 from a junkyard though.

My 1LE sway bae works pretty good. Not to mention it ways a lot less.

White79bu, what clamps/brackets did you use to hold the swaybar to the frame? Did you use the factory 1LE bushings?

Thanks,
Scot

Trey,

SS' also had the 35mm hollow front bar. I believe WS6' did as well. This is '98-02. Kind of off topic, but these bars are probably easier to find than the 1LE stuff, if anyone is looking to use the 4th gen bars.

I went to jegs and told them that I had a 36 mm bar and they gave me a set energy suspension bushing. I am pretty positive they were for a camaro. It's been a year or so ago. If you want call there tech line. They are pretty good.
