Ya the comments are funny! That is a ton of money for a camaro! But it will probably bring it.

The price isn't too outrageous considering what Yenkos and Baldwin Motion cars are snagging. Well-documented and authenticated Motion cars are in the 400-500K range last I heard.

Q: is your price a typo? you are INSANE if not...I offer 50K for the car based on blue book appraisal

A: yes the price is accurate. But look on the bright side, if you could afford this car your wife would probably leave you for buying it. Well, you probably have to check with her before purchasing anything anyways. Good Luck!

The owner is not afraid to price things. I am sure that is his bid and he is testing the water. I could be wrong, but I don't think ZL1's are quite there yet. If someone bits though it will be good news to all that have the more rare cars.

Of course, if it were 1/2 that, I would still have to pass, just too rich for my blood. Great car though for the real players.

I don't know, last I heard was that '67 Zs were starting to go for over 100k, and they built 602 of those. The ZL1 is really the king of the hill as far as collectable Camaro's (except for the Z convertible, maybe). They made way more Yenko and Baldwin Motion cars.

didnt they only make 69 of these cars in 1969 only? thats the car with the aluminum 427 right? sorry i dont know my camaros that well. i do find it funny that the majority of the add is talking about his cross ram intake reproductions

You are correct sir. 69 in 69. All aluminum 427 BB. The only thing I can think of right now that one ups this is the ZL1 Vette. Only 2 ever made.

The seller, Jim, has set a few records for cars and parts, but this is phishing at its purist. Although, some big fish may bite. Even if it doesn't, it still brought a $750K bid right? So it must be worth close to that.
There are a lot of nubies in the market place, and people are inheriting more and more money at a younger age. So he may just land him one.

I think you hit it on the head there WS6. I really don't think he plans to sell the car, however, what a slick way to advertise your wares to your target market. Any collector in this market would probably have a need for the intakes too.
BTW , The 69 Yenko camaros where pretty rare too only 198 total production. Remember, while everyone always knew the ZL 1 was rare, the Yenkos were raced, abused and destroyed for years before some finally decided they were rare too. I wonder in reality how many real Yenkos are really still out there?

Here is an excellent write up with paperwork examples and survivor stories.
http://www.camaros.org/copo.shtml

VINs: http://www.copo.com/ZL1-vin.htm
According to this page, only 47 are accounted for.

The Ebay car states it's #40, and it coincides with the VIN listings, which are public.....

The 68 Z28 convertible (1 of 1)built for GM executive Bill Estes was at the Auburn Kruse Auction last Fall. They are parading this car around the auction circuit to drive traffic to the the auctions. They have done the same thing with other cars. The Batmobile (the original and the newer versions) has been up for auction a number of times.
These cars are not really for sale..
Last Fall at the auction alledgedly all of the paperwork and documentation for the 68 Z28 vert was stolen at the auction. There were signs posted everywhere offering rewards for the return of the paperwork.
I have not heard any more about this since last Fall.

Frank.. I used to own that ZL1 you gave away for 50.00. I got it from the guy that won it. The car was even offered to me a couple weeks ago for alot less than the 700K on the Ebay car and I would rather have the one you gave away.

Scott Tieman is MI renowned for correct restorations. He started with doing Pontiacs only. Every screw, nut and bolt are correct. Factory markings and tags, the whole nine yards worth. I believe he is getting an estimated $150,000 to $200,000 on each car he does, depending what parts are needed. His work always wins first prize for original vehicles anywhere they are judged. He has been putting out cars like this for over 10 years now.

However, bidding $750,000 and receiving that same amount is something entirely different! Personally I think it is one ugly looking Camaro. To each his own I guess.

Yes he has one bid at 775k, but the bidder knows its no big deal since the reserve is much higher. Heck, I can even bid on it right now at 780k and still know I have no obligation since the reserve is not met and is probably much higher. Jim, the seller, has very nice products and I have purchased from him extensively, especially NOS parts.
On every auction he has he advertises his crossrams. I just bought a perfectly restored console for a 67,with gauges, from him for over 1k. Its going in the closet for about 5yrs and then on eBay or should I say "ePay".

Bill, I was thinking there were only 69 Yenko Camaros made in '69 also (not sure where I gained that info), but Ive seen them go for a small fraction of what this COPO owner is asking. It seems there was a 7,000-mile COPO that went for around $120k not long ago, so I cant see where he arrived at this figure either.

My thoughts exactly. No car is worth this much, I don't care how rare it is. Why? Because I can build a car for a mere fraction of the cost and then go beat the rare car left and right. If I had the money, would I buy it? Maybe, but not through ebay. I'd be hagglin'!

But probably not, I hate show cars!

That would be my buddy Jim. The guy is amazing. He always seems to find the most extreme and the most rare.
Last year he sold a ZL1 for $550 I believe and then sold a clone for well over six figures.Ive bought and sold a car from him and he is someone that is on the up and up.

i think he is trying to raise the bar for this car to go to barrett-jackson, there was a ls6 chevelle on ebay with 27 miles, original miles ,and thats what he was up to . if i had a zl1 i would do the same there is so much money out there right now !

$40 to list it, $40 to sell it.

Where does the $40 come from. I do quite a bit of ebay sales and, although I don't pay much attention to the list fee, I believe its based on the starting bid, and I know I give up 3% of the sale price at the end.

Do you know something I don't on this?

KUL FIR CHICK N

Just looked it up and its damn cheap for the high priced items. Not a bad way to advertise as I bet that is the real goal here.

$4.80 for some huge, targeted marketing, for one week. Its against ebay rules, but he'll probably never get caught.

Basic Fees

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you list an item on eBay, you're charged an Insertion Fee according to the table below. If the item sells, you are also charged a Final Value Fee. The total cost of selling an item is the Insertion Fee plus the Final Value Fee.

The best part of this auction is the Q&A taking place....this is great stuff

Q: Jim, Please excuse the person offering 50K, He thought he was in the die cast section. And as far the guy who rather have an F-16 the g-force of cracking the throttle in a F-16 or a ZL-1 would be about the same. The Difference being a person could actually drive the Zl-1 where as Homeland Security might have issues with the F-16. To these guys I'll let you and the others with negative comments in on a well kept secret:.....your right!!!! the Zl-1 offered here isn't worth 777K ... But Jim has to sell it for this price to keep people like you from loading up your brother-in-law "Bubba", a 12 pack of pabst and destroying one of the last PERFECT PIECES OF AMERICAN MUSCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You keep collecting happy meal toys, and Jim will keep perserving history. Anyway Jim, Thanks for a look at a truly amazing car!

It's just a supply and demand thing. If you have the cash, why not, it isn't like if you don't buy this car there is going to be another one for sale next week. Think of it this way, the majority of people think we are all crazy for spending what we spend on our 30 year old cars. Why don't we just buy Hondas if it is just a car? Personally, restoring a car isn't my bag, not because of what it costs to buy a restored car, but because I couldn't leave it alone. If I had a ZL1, I'd be thinking about stuffing a 572 into, and if you're gonna do that, why not just buy a plain coupe?
