So its my turn to upgrade my car with some ls power. Whats not to like about them, right? Well its just not like me to do things the easy way. I just dont care for the plastic intakes that gm puts on these engines. Yes they work well, but I wanted something different.
Here is my story about wanting something other then plastic.
First, I am building an LQ9, started with a good low miles engine, picked up some L92 heads. Now to top it off we have to make some chips fly.

So I started with a couple blocks of aluminum and proceeded make them a little lighter. After the chips settled, this is what I ended up with.

I then machined some bells for the tops of the runners

and welded them to some extruded tubing

Next I welded the runners to the intake rails

This is what the rails look like bolted to the engine.

This shot shows the front throttle body mount that I machined. Wish I would have gotten a picture of it before I started welding on it.

And the front. I still have some work to do on it, I would like to touch up some of the welds yet.

And here is MY version of something other then plastic.:smoke:
I have alot to do to the car before this thing can be dropped in, work is slow but its getting there. I want to put a smoke machine to the intake to check for leaks, Im sure there are a few spots that need to be zapped.
