Yes you can. The Monte Carlo was the same frame as the Chevelle.

Yes you can. The Monte Carlo was the same frame as the Chevelle.
not exactly- the Monte Carlo had a longer wheelbase, and the extra length was added between the firewall and front axle. the engine is in the same location as a Chevelle relative to the firewall, but the crossmember is further forward under the balancer, which means that all the suspension mounting points are in a different place relative to the engine so headers for a Chevelle won't necessarily fit a Monte.
but other than the header thing, i can't see any issues with putting an LS engine in a Monte- in fact, you can run a bigger oil pan on a Monte due to the crossmember not being directly under the engine..

There are plenty of adapter plates out there for 78-88 Montes along with headers designed for the LS swap. Pacesetter 98-02 F-body headers also work very well.

i was talking about 70-72 and 73-77 Monte Carlos that are built on a longer frame than a same year Chevelle. in those years, the Chevelles and what not were A bodies and the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix were called G bodies. header fitment might be an issue if you are trying to use Chevelle headers in a Monte Carlo.
all 78-88 A and G body frames are interchangeable and have the same wheelbase, with the only real differences being the tab that they added in 84 for the different trans crossmember for an overdrive transmission. in those cars, you'd use the same parts with all the same issues regardless of which G body you are putting it in.

Ah. Well you can pretty much put an LS into anything your heart desires. Some may not be as easy as others, but anything is possible. LS motors are being swapped into Ford Mustangs, BMWs, airplanes, air boars, regular boats, you name it.
