Hey everyone! Im just 17 but ive been around classic car my whole life and love them. I mostly deal with pontiacs. Im building a 1979 Trans am powered by a Oldsmobile 455, but hoping to LS upgrade later. Im young but will listen to advice and would greatly appreciate it. I hope to begin autocrossing soon when i finish the trans am. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:D

Are you guys building it all at once or just putting parts on over the years?

We are building it all at once but it is coming together slowly due to school and working alot to pay for parts. Doing body work right now. Motor is out of car still because ive been told I couldn't run my factory airbox. But besides that motor mounts are needed then motor will be in.

Welcome, and it's nice to see another young guy taking on a musclecar rebuild. Here is my two cents for what it's worth;
Safety First! make sure all your steering, brakes and tires are safe and in good shape
Go to the boneyard and get some factory upgraded parts that fit your car - think bigger sway bars, posi, etc.
Get your car on the road - don't start down a road of the ultimate car that will take years to build
enjoy the build and Have Fun
Way to often I see guys who want the ultimate build and due to funds and or skills the car sits for years before it gets on the road. These cars tend to get sold unfinished bacause the owner loses interest because they never get to drive it. You have your whole life ahead of you to build the ultimate car of your dreams so get this one safe and on the road and make the upgrades as you can afford it or have extra time, like in the off season. Hope this helps you and we are all looking forward to seeing pictures as you go through your build.

That's really cool! I wish I was doing my car all at once. I'm 17 too but my dad and I are building my car as we go cause i use it for my daily driver from school and back and I'm going to be autocross it too but I'm not working right now so parts come in very slowly. Your car seems like it's going to come out really cool. Do you have a build thread on it?

Welcome aboard. Take lots of pics and start a build thread. You'll be glad you did and others can enjoy your progress.
Agreed on what Todd said. Be smart and careful. The big Olds will wanna fry those tires and friends will want you to drive crazy on the street. Use your head. Remember if something goes wrong while playing around you get stuck with the results not your friends. Now that I'm old(ish) I prefer taking it to the track. It's a lot of fun letting loose with the car in a controlled environment along with other folks enjoying a good day of racing. Sure beats getting busted (or worse) on the street.
My son is 14 and we're just starting on his car. We'll do it in stages so he can enjoy it some while still in high school. Check out what we're working with...

Ive experienced the getting tired of cars all too much with my dad and his many projects. Definatly be safe is my key thing. Hopefully putting in a rollcage and i bought all new brakes and boosters and master cylinder. It will hopefully be up and going by early spring to cruise with the t-tops out :D

Your car will come along eventually mine has been a work in progress for about a year now and its so close i can taste it! Your car will make it there too and we can show these other guys we can hang with the adults too!! :D

Go to the Project section and start a new thread. Get a photobucket account and upload your photos and then you can link them in your threads so we can see the action. Also, start with a description of what you have and what you are doing. We need all the second gen Firebirds/Formulas/T/A's we can get around here.
Edit: I see you have figured out how to upload pics by going through the projects section. No need to start a new post for each update, keep all of your updates in one place. Just go into your main thread and reply to the thread and add your new pictures and text in there. That way we can follow along. It will bump your build thread back up to the top of the page.

Yeah I haven't met anyone my age in the pro-touring world until now lol. Feels a little alone at the track and being the youngest one lol. How many races have you done?

I havnt done any official races. I've just street raced. Lol my dad had a friend who was at the event in Pigeon Forge and we went and loved it. So i started my build into a pro touring car about a week later. Lol
