Yes.... a dumb question, and not an accepted combo.... but i am curious to what the result would be...

I currently run a stock style GM single piston disc brake setup up front

Stock rear drums

Wilwood 7/8" master

adjustable prop valve

10lb residual valve in rear line

Good pedal..... but still looking for more stopping power....

So...... leaving everything else the same, what would adding a 9" single booster do?

If i had to guess..... I would imagine a very sensitive brake pedal?

What about just a small single 7" booster?

Thanks in advance to such a basic question....

IMO, you are looking at the wrong components. The #1 thing I would be changing is the rear drums. My
MC is 7/8" bore Wilwood with no power assist, no proportioning valve and no residual pressure valve, actuating C6Z06 front and rear calipers. The braking is extremely well balanced and amazingly effective. Not to mention that the entire brake system is about as simple as it gets. I would not waste my time and money patching those brakes, spend your money on upgrading.

Keep in mind that changing the booster also implies changing the pedal ratio, thereby cancelling out some of the perceived benefit of adding the booster in the first place. In all honesty, if you want to go to power brakes, then do so by all means, however why buy a dinky little booster that's going to be possibly less than stellar with low vacuum levels when for the same price you could buy a dual-9" diaphragm unit? My guess is you could just about fund the new booster by selling your Wilwood 7/8" bore MC to someone with aftermarket (smaller piston area) brakes and then get an appropriately sized master cylinder for your power setup. This would serve to reduce your pedal travel which I can't help but think is quite long with the current setup, only to get worse if you add a booster.
