Years ago I upgraded the brakes on the Camaro and they have never been as good as stock since. Originally I went to 12" rotors up front vs the stock 11 with the stock D52 caliper and 11.6" S10 Blazer disc out back. Kept same size 1-1/8 master (Vette for 4-wheel disc) and stock booster. Pedal felt spongy. Bled 100x and never got any better. Converted to manual with a 1" master and 6:1 pedal ratio. Pedal felt a little bit better, but still a little spongy and the braking power was still not good. Went to a Wilwood GMIII 2.38 caliper and it shortened the pedal travel, but pedal sponginess was still there. Checked it over a bunch of times and couldn't find a problem. Even bought a brake PSI gauge and got a reading of about 1100psi. Tried rebedding the pads with no change.

Just recently I tried to google the Hawk HPS CoF and found a lot of threads where people were complaining about the Hawk HPS feeling spongy and their low initial bite. BMW guys especially had harsh words for them. And it sounds exactly like what I'm feeling. At this point I would be happy to throw them in the trash and start over with a new pad if it will fix my problem.

What pads are you running with manual brakes and how do they feel? My car is 90% street, 10% strip and I just want it to stop well. Right now I can get on the pedal pretty hard and it doesn't bite like it should. I'm thinking a pad with good "initial bite" would be ideal. Obviously high dust and squeaking are not desired, but I can deal with it if it gets me the stopping power I need.

Call Adam over at Carbotech. They have a low dust street pad called the Bobcat. I ran there autocross pad on the street called AX6. They are dusty and rarely had any squeal, but great cold bite. He can steer you in the right direction.
