I am installing a new American autowire kit in a 65 chevelle. I have a stand alone system for the motor and was wondering do I even need to run the original wiring harness since it has the stand alone kit?

I guess I should have mentioned the motor is a 95 LT1

I'm guessing you will need to run only the gauge wiring and maybe a few others for ac, only if you are running ac. I'm only answering biased off of my 87 Monte Carlo SS with an 97 LT4 swap using the painless wiring set up on the engine.

While I was taking my engine harness out the only thing I had hooked up was the wire to the starter a s the stand alone system also has a wire that goes to the starter, I guess ill just unhook it and see what happens. I don't see why I would need that hooked up to the stater if the other harness also hooks up there already

Maybe it's some kind of power feed. Who made the LT1 harness? I have an LT1 in my 65 Chevelle as well and I made the harness myself and did not have any connection to the starter.

Lt1wiring did the harness for the motor. Are you still running your stock engine harness that plugs into your fuse block?

I used a painless wiring harness when I had an LT1 in my car. The car harness was used to control charging and starting.

I upgraded the whole wiring harness so I did not use the stock fuse block or any other stock connectors.
