I'm looking for budget engine swap for 1967 camaro. My budget is 4-5k and I'm looking at lq4/9 or 383 sbc. I has a muncie M20 4 speed that i want keep. Plans for the car are a weekend and fun car. Whats the total cost for the lq4/9 swap ? Thanks Ron

I saw a posting for a 377 SBC for sale that may fit your goals perfectly. Have a look and see if it will do the trick. IMHO I don't know if you can get a decent LS into your car for that price.

This is the budget build for my 72 cutlass. It was a 5.3 with a Muncie, a 6.0 will be a few bucks more.
Be sure to get everything with the motor, harness, TAC, pedal, fuel pump, accessories, etc
05 5.3L L56 (LM7) 50k miles $900
I changed LS1 intake intake/ aftermarket fuel rail (not necessary) $150
CTS-V oil pan (not necessary, but good for ground clearance) $140
Sachs 1050 flwheel/11" 10 spline clutch/621 bell housing/etc $350
Fans/controller $60
F body exhaust/flanges $110 (still need mufler shop to make downpipes)
ECU reprogram $75
VSS $35
tank, pump, regulator, fuel lines, etc $350
1" setback mounts $60
Misc, wiring connectors, fittings, etc $100

What are people spending on 6.0 swap? Just the engine? OAkesters

I built a 377 carburated motor on a budget. I swapped parts and labor for a lot of the parts I used.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go the LS/LQ route. More bang for the buck. It is also a lot lighter than my iron block/iron head motor.

In my opinion I think you will be glad you did in the end.

Depends on the mileage. For a full drop out, with all accessories, harness, pedal, ecu, etc. $1400-2200ish. LQ9 will go for a couple hundred more than an LQ4. 50,000 miles will be on the higher end of the pricing, 125,000 miles will be on the lower end. For a long block without the accessories or harness, you can probably cut $300-500 off the price.

Then there are all the extras. You may not be happy with the truck intake and opt for an LS6 intake ($300), or accessory layout and need new brackets ($250-400). You'll need new headers ($600-1200), you'll need to mod the wiring harness ($250), or buy a custom one ($500). If you're current setup is carbed, you'll need a new tank and fuel pump ($500-1000), and new fuel lines and fittings...You'll need an adapter for your transmission, or like me you'll buy a whole new tranny $$$$$$. You may need new gauges? Radiator? Hoses? You'll definitely need new motor mounts...

I'm in the process of swapping an LQ9 into my '67 Camaro and the costs add up fast. I started with a generous budget, and I'll be double that by the time it's done. It'll be worth it, but you need to do your research first.

my 67 firebird lq4 swap is WAY more expensive than a small block build. i could buy a new 383 from the local chevy dealer for less, much less.
