Hiya-
I'm starting to order new parts for my low-buck all-purpose quarter-miler/road course 1979 Trans Am. I bought new frame connectors and these Globalwest del-a-lum bushings #1015. Now after I've ordered them, I see they have replacement shafts as well with standard and offset camber settings.
Are these shafts required for the bushings or can I use the original shafts as long as they are in good condition?
I'm more interested in getting this car MOVING and drivable instead of pushing it to the utmost level in handling... for now.
The rest of my bushings are polyurethane from Energy Suspension. (lower a-arms, sway bars f + r)
Also using KYB shocks and factory replacement springs.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks
Mike

Pretty sure most of their bushings can take stock shafts and their shafts will work with stock bushings. There are "stock" type offset shafts from MOOG etc also to get more caster/negative camber (esp in older frames that sag) and use fewer shims to get there. I've always found the A arm hitting the steering shaft as the limiting factor or the bolt lengtt for shims if using a straight shaft.

You need to throw a stiffer front spring in there if you are pulling the A arms. Stock rear rates can work OK. I alos don't think too many folks hink too highly of KYBs so have shocks in your game plan.

Thanks for your input on the bushing shafts, Skip. I'll probably run the KYB's til I can upgrade them later but as you suggest I'll replace the front springs while its apart. Thinking about using the Hotchkis 2" lowering springs. Any ideas on shock selection that don't cost $500? Coilovers would be nice but not needed at my level as of yet.

You may want to reconsider using poly for the bushings. Delrin, steel, or rubber may be a better option. Poly sticks and squeaks

I had most of your combination in my 70 bird for many years. Connectors, energy suspension body mounts, Del A Lums in stock control arms, and Hotchkis springs along with the GW offset control arm shafts. If you want to get the camber set for good handling I would use the offset UCA shafts. I don't have a big power drivetrain (yet) but the combo has worked well for drags, road course, Land speed racing and street use.

Shocks are going to make one of the biggest noticeable changes in the handling.

Springs -the Hotchkis are good, you can also cruise the Moog spring catalog and find some with a better rate and correct height over factory springs. Some Diesel S-10 springs can work pretty good. Pro touring F body and Customworks both have some also.
